The human body is the best picture of the human soul
Pilates is an exercise system that benefits people at every level of fitness and at every stage of life. Whether you are young and athletic, or in your senior years and haven’t exercised for a while, Pilates can help you build strength, achieve a better standard of postural health and become more physically fit. The genuine Pilates Method teaches you a new way of life: you will sit better, stand better and feel more in control of your body.
Awaken your deepest muscles for beautiful alignment and a supported spine
The best way to discover healthy posture is through exercise and movement, by developing a sense of how your body works as an interconnected whole. Learning the body¬–mind connection allows you to live in your whole body, not just your head. With alignment and balance, your new awareness will encourage you to reconnect with your body daily, optimising your general health and preventing injury.
Connect body and mind
The Pilates Method comprises a repertoire of more than 500 different exercises that are performed on a variety of equipment in the studio. A session at the Soul Pilates studio takes about 60 minutes, each client receiving individual attention in a semi-private class of no more than four, or one-on-one if you prefer. Clients start at their own level and progress at their own pace. Each instructor at the studio is trained to develop a system of exercises tailored specifically for each individual based on health and fitness goals and the presence of any prior injuries. Routines change from session to session, so there is always a strong sense of variety and achievement. As you progress, the workout can become increasingly more challenging. Two or three sessions per week will help attain optimum results, but even a weekly class will provide valuable benefits.
Pilates gives a better result for the effort and time invested
Not only do Pilates exercises eliminate the need for tedious repetitions, they are inherently more effective because they work several muscle groups at the same time. Each exercise is accomplished in a particular sequence, with a minimum number or repetitions and a high degree of precision and mental focus. The movements stretch one muscle group while strengthening another, and require a great deal of abdominal control. The result is a toned body, without bulking and shortening muscles.
Pilates is one of the few exercise methods that can be safely undertaken during recovery and rehabilitation from injury. Itis an excellent discipline for maintaining health and fitness during pregnancy.
Insist on genuine Pilates
The genuine Pilates Method captures the benefits of Eastern exercise philosophies, such as yoga, by emphasising mental focus, breathing and flexibility. Pilates also maximises strength and endurance, the focus of traditional Western exercise forms. By blending the best of these approaches, the Pilates Method trains mind and body to work together toward the goal of overall fitness. At Soul Pilates, we offer only the genuine Pilates Method and use equipment that was originally designed specifically for the exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. The genuine Pilates Method is a unique and powerful system that has stood the test of time and really does deliver results. All of our instructors have undergone extensive training, and the studio is recognised by the APMA.

‘It is the mind itself which builds the body.’
‘Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. In order to achieve happiness, it is imperative to gain mastery of your body. If at the age of 30 you are stiff and out of shape, you are old. If 60 you are supple and strong then you are young.’

Conducted in consultation with your physio, if there has been a referral, the Assessment ensures we design a set of exercises most appropriate for you.
Studio Classes (1:4)
Generally in groups of four, using a full range of spring-resistant and specially selected equipment (including Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda-chair, Arcs, foam rolls, mats, balls, etc), sessions are approximately 60 minutes in duration and are by appointment only.

Corporate classes are held at your workplace in the South Melbourne, St Kilda Road, Port Melbourne, South Yarra, Prahran and St Kilda area. These one hour classes require only floor space and loose clothing – we supply everything else (mats, balls etc).
