SRIANDA Yoga Programs
Srianda yoga programs are based on the teachings of SWAMI DURGANANDA who teaches a practical and traditional Raj Yoga, it’s origin founded 25,000 years ago. This ancient lineage is leading the way into the next millennium helping each aspirant deal with the many stressful situations of our modern lifestyle assisting us to go within and find INNER PEACE.
Programs are suitable for all fitness levels, beginners welcome.
YOGA ASANAS / postures help strengthen and correct the body structure, stretch muscles, massage internal organs, creating a positive foundation for a healthy body.
PRANAYAMA / breathing exercises cleanse, stimulate and increase the vital flow of energy within the body creating a feeling of positive awareness.
YOGA NIDRA / deep relaxation under the guidance of a qualified instructor one is taught the benefit of complete relaxation, this practice is essential for peace of mind.
MEDITATION - learn the secrets of this ancient form of ASTANGA / Raj Yoga meditation once taught only to initiates of the east. Our fully trained instructors will help you master this art and allow you to take control of your body, mind and destiny.
The Practise of Raj Yoga
As an easy although profound yoga, Raj Yoga allows the individual to embark on a journey of learning to the ultimate illumination of the soul. Along this journey of discovery, not only are we helped and aided in the daily struggles encountered in our individual everyday existence, but also universally as the structures of society begin to deteriorate, and old beliefs are shattered as so often happens within this age of discontent. Once we consciously understand who we are and why we are here, this will without doubt give us the strength and ability to deal with many of the stresses of everyday living and survival, which can result in physical and emotional breakdowns. We are therefore equipped with the ability of a quick recovery to handle each situation and turn it into a spiritual experience of evolution.

Your MIND, without a healthy mind, all is lost. It is the great obstacle that prevents us from knowing oneself. The same mind that separates us from the self is the same mind that helps us unite with it ."

Why Yoga?
For Anxiety
'In recent years we have seen a rise in stress across all spheres of life, particularly in the workplace. Approximately 7.7 million Australians spend one-quarter to one-third of their waking lives at work so it is not surprising that we are seeing workplace stress emerging as a major cause of physical and mental health problems.’ From Workplace Stress in Victoria - Developing a Systems Approach http://www.vichealth.vic.gov.au/workplacestress
Anxiety more common than depression!
Only seven per cent of Australians recognise anxiety disorders as a major mental health problem, despite them being the most common mental health condition affecting Australians.
Research released by beyondblue to coincide with World Mental Health Day on 10 October found general recognition of depression was increasing in the community, but the majority of people were not aware of the types of anxiety disorders.
About one in four Australians will be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in their lifetime, with one of five affected by depression.
Dr Nicole Highet, deputy CEO of beyondblue, said anxiety disorders often co-existed with depression.
Common anxiety disorders include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and phobias.
The national telephone survey of 3,200 people also discovered that negative attitudes towards people with depression are on the decline.
However some myths are still to be busted, with 56 per cent of people mistakenly believing antidepressants were directive.

Why Yoga?
For People With Fibromyalgia
Complementary and alternative medicine - Complementary and alternative therapies for pain and stress management aren't new. Some, such as meditation and yoga, have been practiced for thousands of years. But their use has become more popular in recent years, especially with people who have chronic illnesses, such as fibromyalgia.
Introduction - You hurt all over, and you frequently feel exhausted. Even after numerous tests, your doctor can't find anything specifically wrong with you. If this sounds familiar, you may have fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on your body where slight pressure causes pain. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men. Previously, fibromyalgia was known by other names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.
Although the intensity of your symptoms may vary, they'll probably never disappear completely. It may be reassuring to know, however, that fibromyalgia isn't progressive or life-threatening. Treatments and self-care steps can improve fibromyalgia symptoms and your general health. From http://www.mayoclinic.com

Testimonials
Yoga Classes
I attempted yoga classes on many occasions but always felt physically out of my depth. Amanda has shown me that I can practice yoga well and, that through its teachings, I can accomplish my goal of improved levels of mental and physical wellbeing. Her individualised approach during class has allowed me to work at my own rate and be challenged when I am ready.
I am encouraged to try new things in a supportive way and I am growing in confidence to extend myself. I look forward to every class and enjoy focused “me” time for one hour. I feel proud of my progress and thank Amanda for her patience, professionalism and commitment to her students. I hope I will be practising yoga for the rest of my life. Louise P – School Principal, May 09
