SHIATSU

SHIATSU means “finger pressure” and is a therapy that combines diagnosis and treatment. SHIATSU originated and developed in Japan in the 16th century from traditional massage, acupressure, corrective exercises and stretching. Similar to other forms of Oriental Medicine, SHIATSU is based on the concept of a predictable flow of energy (Ki or Chi) in the body in channels or meridians. Health and healing processes are impaired if the circulation of this energy through the body becomes stagnant, blocked, excessive or deficient. Using thumbs, palms, elbows, knees or feet, the SHIATSU practitioner applies 90° pressure to the recipient’s body to restore the flow of energy, to bring about balance, deep relaxation and stimulate healing processes. SHIATSU promotes and increases the effectiveness of other therapies.

SHIATSU RESEARCH: Experience and Effects of SHIATSU: A Cross-European Study (University of Leeds & European Shiatsu Federation) found SHIATSU promotes relaxation, a sense of calm, better sleep & reduction in distressing symptoms including stress, tension, low energy and fatigue.

Sandra's areas of expertise include both acute and chronic illness – chronic fatigue, anxiety/depression, migraines, cancer – and daily existence. I am both creative and practical and work well with teenagers and adolescents.

Your “one-to-one” shiatsu session will include:
  • taking a full medical history and detailed account of life-style including, diet, exercise and relaxation programmes, interests and creative outlets, current goals.

  • each individualized session will focus on client empowerment and education, with eclectic counselling using NLP principles, psycho-synthesis and self-hypnosis where appropriate and may include corrective exercises, stretching, acupressure, Shiatsu, relaxation, meditation, macrobiotic dietary principles and cooking techniques, Huna and flower essences
  • .

    Shiatsu for Animals

As when working on a person, Sandra will apply appropriate pressure to the animal’s body, using her thumbs, hands or arms to restore a balanced flow of energy, to bring about a state of calm, and to stimulate any necessary healing processes (Shiatsu may be used with all conditions). Drawing on her intuitive skills and experience as a meditation practitioner and teacher, Sandra will “listen” and “communicate” with the animal. Clinical consultations or home visit – why not treat you and your pet together?

    YOGA (Classical Style)

Classical YOGA is more than just a physical "hatha yoga" approach. Rather, it is a wholistic art and science unifying the body, mind a spirit as a moving meditation. It incorporates traditional postures, breathing practices, deep relaxation and meditation. The word YOGA comes from the Sanskrit “yuj” meaning to bind, join, yoke, unite. Yoga is not a religion for it is un-denominational, relying not on a faith but a number of techniques of Truth or Wholeness. Yoga is believed to have existed thousands of years before Christ and was systemized in the Third Century BC by Pantajali in his “Yoga sutras” and in the Hindu classic the “Bhagavadgita”. YOGA is above all, a very positive way and approach to life, health and well being.
