With several decades of yoga and health experience and expertise, Lyn Thomas, founder and manager of Sunshine Yoga & Health, presents a gentle but powerful approach to yoga which is impacted with tradition.
Sunshine Yoga has become an authentic style in its own right. It can be mostly likened to hatha yoga. With an influence of many styles Lyn has experienced over the years it has given her a unique and beautifully flowing system she calls Sunshine Yoga.
Specific conscious breathing is a strong focus and is involved with all asanas, vinyasas, relaxations and meditation. A touch of qigong has recently been added to its structure.
Managing stress and tension, increasing energy, switching off your busy mind, learning how to relax are the key factors that Sunshine Yoga offers to you. This is achieved through the practice of postures, breath, meditation and relaxation. Health is guaranteed to improve with the practice of Sunshine Yoga.
GENERAL YOGA CLASSES
From the moment you arrive at the class you will feel you have permission to switch off and enjoy the hour and a half of yoga postures, breathing and relaxation. This is your time to connect with 'you' - your haven once a week to regenerate, rejuvenate and to feel glad that you are alive.
On your first session I explain the importance of breathing well and instruct you on how to breath diaphragmatically and fully. This is the most important tool that I share with you.
You are guided gently into postures and movements that incorporate your breath with stretching and letting go tightness and building strength. I am very emphatic that you do not go beyond your level and therefore there is never a reason for injuries.
Relaxation and meditation are a very important part of the lessons and I always bring you into a beautiful space with a 15 minute guided relaxation at the end of each class. You will love this!!!

Style of Yoga
Sunshine Yoga is based on the Hatha Yoga principles. However, over four decades of yoga and health practices and training, Lyn has created her own unique style. Her motto is "simplicity" and she invites you to "experience the power of gentleness with Sunshine Yoga & Health".
Sunshine Yoga is a system which unifies and blends body, mind, emotions and soul, using breathing techniques (pranayama), postures (asanas), stretching, relaxation and meditation.
You begin your one and a half hour Brisbane Yoga session with natural breathing using diaphragmatic breathing, which is you are taught on your first session. Lyn spends half an hour with you prior to the class starting, on your first session. Conscious breathing is emphasised throughout the yoga sessions as it helps you release tight and tense muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. Your breath will massage your organs. Your breath will build qi (chi) and move prana (life force energy).
Conscious diaphragmatic breathing is a positive and proven stress management tool. Wherever you go you take your breath, so I ask "where would you get a more portable tool to de-stress and become calm"? It really is that simple and it is a technique that works brilliantly - every time. The only downfall is that YOU have to do it.
During your relaxation/meditation time you will experience the depths with which breathing techniques take you in order to switch off your busy mind and allow you to relax.
Sunshine Yoga 's system is amazing for increasing flexibility, tone and strength. A vast variety of postures (asana's) and yoga movements (vinyasa's) will not only create flexibility but will also increase your energy and vitality. Conscious breathing exercises whilst stretching with yoga postures, releases pain and tightness from your body. You will become centred and focused and experience a wonderful sense of "being in the moment".
Sunshine Yoga participants will tell you how they relax and de-stress just by listening to Lyn's soothing and calming voice which has developed through her own yoga practices.
You are guaranteed positive results from the guided relaxation and meditation given at the end of each Sunshine Yoga class. Lyn knows this time to be the most pleasurable part of the class for the majority of clients. It's called "bliss"! Several years ago I produced a series of 4 wonderful videos (now DVD's). At the time I was very disillusioned with the quality of yoga videos available - most of them were american whereby they were beginners yoga yet I had difficulty doing the postures!!! So I decided it was time to get "real and kind" yoga on to tape for safe use at home. Being a nature freak, I filmed all of the footage outdoors in nature. They have turned out to be very user-friendly with beautiful scenery, wonderful yoga (you will feel as if you are in a class) that includes breathing, postures, movement and guided relaxation. I also recorded a lovely guided relaxation on a CD which is the best stress management tool you could ever want.
