Sutherland Osteopathy & Acupuncture
What is Osteopathy ?
Osteopathy is a 'whole body' system of manual therapy based on a unique underlying philosophy dating back many centuries. Osteopathic treatment addresses many aspects of the human body, such as the joint, the muscles, blood flow, fluid drainage, gastrointestinal function, menstrual cycle and more. The World Health Organisation recognises osteopathic diagnoses as being scientifically proven. The body of research further supporting Osteopathic treatment is constantly expanding.
How much training do Osteopaths need to be registered practitioners ?
In Australia, Osteopaths are required to undertake 5 years of full time University study. On completion of there degrees, they are eligible to become statutorily registered practitioners.
The course content in these degrees covers anatomy, physiology, pathology, general medical diagnosis, aswell as Osteopathic techniques and diagnosis.

Or if you would generally like to feel and function better
First we take a thorough history and perform a examination (eg blood pressure, biomechanics, orthopaedic testing etc). This provides us with the clinical information required to make a diagnosis, be it medical and/or osteopathic. We then plan the treatment and management process. During this process, we always ensure that it is safe to proceed, and provide medical referral where necessary. Osteopathic techniques are applied to correct any changes in the structure and function of your body in conjunction with home based exercises to maximise treatment effect. We will then give you appropriate advise of things that you may be able to change to prevent your pain from returning, eg posture at work, diet, sleeping position. These take home activities will be specific yet minimal so you can fit them into your day easily.
