Therapeutic Massage - How can it help you?

There are many types and styles of massage.

Sometimes the vast array of choices can be confusing. Here is a simplified version of what we offer...

RELAXATION Massage:
for relieving stress and increase your sense of calm and well-being.

REMEDIAL Massage:
for specific aches and pains, such as lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, loss of mobility, and arm, hand and wrist discomfort. Remedial massage can also quicken your healing process after an injury or surgery.

SPORTS Massage:
is a type of massage specifically tailored to sporting ailments or injuries. It is not meant to be a relaxing massage and can be quite vigorous at times. It is not only for sports people it can benefit anyone that exercises, even if it is mild exercise such as regular walking.

MYOFASCIAL Release:
a gentle blend of stretching and massage. Myofascial Release Therapy uses hands-on manipulation of the entire body to promote healing, release and pain relief. The therapy is based on the idea that poor posture, physical injury, illness and emotional stress can throw the body out of alignment and cause its intricate web of fascia to become tight and constricted.

TRIGGER POINT Therapy:
trigger points are areas of hyper-irritability in the soft tissue structure. These can be acute sources of pain or latent, unnoticed until pressure is applied. Trigger points are manifested as small contraction knots in the muscles, that control the state of contraction and active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain.

Benefits of Massage

REDUCES stress and anxiety:
your heart and breathing rate slow, your blood pressure goes down, your production of stress hormones decreases, and your muscles relax. Massage may also increase the available level of serotonin, which is a chemical in the body that positively affects emotions and thoughts.

INCREASES flexibility and circulation:
improved blood and lymph circulation is due partly to the physical manipulation of soft tissue and partly to the chemicals released as part of the relaxation response.

RELIEVES muscle tension and stiffness:
touching the skin or applying pressure relaxes muscles, tendons, and ligaments. In addition, while some of the deeper tissues of the body, such as deep spinal musculature, cannot be easily accessed by a massage therapist, the release of more superficial layers of muscles may also affect these deeper layers. This can lead to both superficial and deep tissues finding a better alignment and balance.

BOOSTS your immune system:
research is suggesting that massage therapy has a positive impact on immune function. Massage may increase in white blood cells and natural killer-cell activity which better prepares the body to fight off possible invading cells.

MAINTAINS or increases your range of motion:
by improving circulation, which nourishes cells and improve waste elimination, relieve tight muscles that are knotted up, reduce adhesions, release any nerve compression that can cause other problems that you don’t want to live with, providing you with physical relaxation for enhanced energy and vitality.

AIDS recovery from illness or injury:
massage can decrease scar tissue from injuries. Muscles in spasm are weaker and more painful, and massage can significantly reduce muscle spasms.
