TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic medical system that takes a deep understanding of the laws and patterns of nature and applies them to the human body. TCM is a complete medical system that has been practiced for more than 5000 years and has changed very little over the centuries. In its country of origin it is not an alternative form of therapy, but is used in the state hospitals alongside modern medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine has formed a unique system to diagnose and cure illness. The TCM approach is fundamentally different from that of western medicine. Recent advances in western medicine are only now beginning to affirm the wisdom of this ancient healing system that integrates mind, body, nutrition, lifestyle and energy.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment that involves the insertion of very fine, sterilised, single use needles at strategic points in the body along energy channels called meridians. When the flow of energy in these meridians becomes obstructed, disease occurs. Acupuncture helps unblock the flow of energy in the body, which signals the body to heal itself. Acupuncture has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as safe, natural, and drug-free. Most importantly it is an effective method of addressing the root causes of disease, and not just the symptoms of many health challenges. It’s a natural and powerful medicine refined by great masters and practiced effectively for over 4000 years. And yes, it works!

CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the more important modalities utilized in TCM. It is one of the great herbal systems of the world, with an unbroken tradition going back 3000 years. It involves the practitioner prescribing a carefully designed herbal formula composed of around 12 to 16 herbal medicines tailored to the individual patient. Herbal formulas are made from granulated herbs that are easy to administer. Unlike western medications, the balance and interaction of all the ingredients are considered more important than the effect of individual ingredients. A key to success in TCM is the treatment of each patient as an individual. Because of its systematic approach and clinical effectiveness it has for centuries had a great influence on the theory and practice of medicine in the East, and more recently has grown rapidly in popularity in the West. It has been clinically proven to provide safe and effective treatment for a wide range of disorders.

MASSAGE

Remedial Massage: consists of specific components designed to reduce soreness from overuse of muscles and to ease over stressed tendons and ligaments. This is effective for everyone, not only the competitive athlete. Anyone can “over do it” in the garden, around the house, lifting something heavy, adapting to poor posture or on the job activities can all produce major pain and discomfort. Specific techniques and strokes are applied as necessary to encourage range of motion and increase flexibility.

Sports Massage: focuses on the muscles relevant to the particular athletic activity. It also can include pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques that promote greater athletic endurance and performance, lessen chances of injury and reduce recovery time.

Relaxation Massage: full body treatment eases stress from the body by calming the nervous system, reducing muscular tension and by stimulating the release of endorphins, a natural chemical in the body that induces deep relaxation. With stress under control, the body's immune system functions better.

CUPPING

Cupping is the treatment of disease by suction of the skin surface. A vacuum is created in glass cups which are then attached to the body surface. The vacuum causes a drawing up of the underlying tissues into the cups, pulling inner congestion of fluids like mucus or blood, moving stagnant energy, and can also reduce swelling. This practice, when completed correctly, is actually capable of relieving a great deal of discomfort in your body and can activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation, expel toxins, and promote deep healing.

MOXABUSTION AND HEAT THERAPY

Moxabustion is a type of heat therapy that often accompanies acupuncture treatment. It involves burning a herb called mugwort above strategic regions or points of the body to stimulate the body to heal itself, improve circulation and relieve pain. Heat therapy may also include the use of mineral infrared heat lamp to improve circulation of blood and energy in the tissues and relieve pain.

CONDITIONS TREATED

Chinese medicine is successfully used for a very wide range of conditions. Among the more commonly treated disorders are:

Neck and Back Pain

Muscle Aches and Sporting Injuries - Frozen shoulder, sciatica, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, knee pain.

Circulatory Disorders - Cold limbs, poor blood flow

Digestive Problems - Bloating, indigestion

Respiratory Problems - Asthma, cough, colds & flu

Headaches and Migraines

Emotional / Mind Disturbance - Stress, depression, anxiety, irritability

Insomnia

Women's Health - irregular periods, painful periods, heavy periods, hormonal acne, endometriosis, infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome, menopause

Pregnancy - breech presentation, labour induction, post natal depression

Men's Health - low libido, impotence

Skin Conditions - eczema, psoriasis, acne

Dizziness, Vertigo & Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

Urinary Tract Infections

Constipation & Diarrhea - diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, crohns disease

Many of these conditions, especially in their chronic forms, create great difficulty for conventional medicine, whilst Chinese Herbal Medicine has a great deal to offer. The results that can be expected and the length of treatment required will depend on the severity of the condition, its duration, and the general health of the patient.
