Welcome to my web page. As a Bowen Therapist I get asked many questions about Bowen Therapy. Being a relatively new healing technique, many people are confused as to how it works and how Bowen can I help them. If you are one of these people I will endeavor to answer some of the commonly asked questions below;

What is Bowen?

Simply put, it is a technique developed by Tom Bowen (hence the name) in 1962 whereby the therapist gently maneuvers the muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia tissue to assist the body to heal itself.

With Hormonal Bowen I have had very good results treating women of all ages with hormonal imbalances, giving relief both physically and emotionally to women (and their partners) who have suffered from the debilitating effects of hormonal problems.

Being a Bowen Therapist is extremely rewarding, but the most rewarding is the work I have been able to do at Little Haven Palliative Care. Having been trained by Brian Smart as a Smart Bowen Therapist I have learnt a very special technique whereby I have been able to assist many cancer patients to have a better quality of life whilst undergoing their various forms of treatment. This same technique also helps people suffering from some of the many forms of autoimmune disease.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it Like Massage?
No it is nothing like a massage. There is no need for the client to remove their clothes for most of the treatments and neither are there any oils or any other products used.

Do I have to believe in it to work?

Not at all! Bowen will work whether or not you believe it will because the technique simply assists the body to do the job it is designed to do to work efficiently and heal itself.

How does it work?

Through normal everyday activities, be it through sport, work, or simply doing the wrong thing at the wrong time we manage to tear our muscles, tendons, or ligaments whether they be large injuries or micro tears, all of which can cause us considerable pain. By making a specific move over these injured areas, like plucking a guitar string and causing the vibrational energy of the string to make music, I will use the vibrational energy of the injured area to start the healing process so that the body can heal itself.

Usually two to three treatments are required depending on the type of injury, but usually a considerable improvement is noticed after the first treatment.
