Before You’re Pregnant
Improved Fertility * Healthier Pregnancy * Happier & Healthier Baby
The results of two studies conducted in the UK show that improving your health through diet and nutrition significantly improves fertility AND reduces miscarriage, birth defects and health complications in the newborn. Both studies were conducted by the Foresight Association in conjunction with Surrey University. All participants took part in a preconception health care program which included an optimised diet and detection and elimination of the following:
● Genito urinary infections
● Food allergy and intolerance
● Intestinal parasites
● Electromagnetic pollution
● Heavy metal toxicity
● Nutritional deficiencies
The first study in 1995 involved 367 couples, the age of female participants ranged from 22-45years and male participants ranged from 25-59 years of age. 37% of participants had been diagnosed with infertility and 38% had suffered a previous miscarriage.
By the end of the study 87% of the couples had given birth to a healthy baby, including an amazing 81% of couples who been diagnosed as infertile!
Even more exciting was the fact that there were no miscarriages, birth defects or peri natal deaths. In a group this size you would normally expect about 70 miscarriages and 6 birth defects.
A second study in 2003 with 1067 couples also showed that combining preconception health care with IVF doubled the IVF success rate from 22% to 47.1%
These are pretty amazing result from a few basic vitamin and mineral supplements combined with a healthy diet. If you’ve experienced a past miscarriage, are experiencing fertility problems or simply need some guidance to improve your health before starting your family, call Sarah to book your Pre-Conception Health Care appointment. Children’s Health
Specialist Children's Naturopath
Children have unique nutritional needs. They are not simply “mini adults”. A child’s digestive system is not completely developed until they are two years old and there is a very important but often overlooked link between their digestive system and immune system. Around sixty percent of your child’s immune cells are located in their digestive tract, making digestive health vital for a healthy immune system. If the delicate bacterial balance of a child’s digestive system is upset it can lead to the development of allergies and a weakened immune system. Antibiotics, constipation, gastro infections, caesarian birth, a high sugar diet and even chlorinated water can all adversely affect this delicate balance. Children also have a decreased ability to detoxify making them extra sensitive to food additives and chemicals in their environment.
It’s not until around the age of twelve years that your child’s nervous system and brain is fully developed, making nutrition in those early formative years extremely important. Deficiencies in zinc and essential fatty acids during childhood can result in a child never reaching their full developmental potential. A good diet is as important as math’s tutoring in helping your child excel and reach their full academic potential.
Your child’s diet and nutrition during their childhood affects not only their immediate health, wellbeing and behaviour but also exerts long term effects on their health and risk of disease in adulthood, putting a whole new spin on the importance of getting them to eat their vegetables.
Whether you want to maximise your child’s learning potential, would like to decrease their reliance upon medications or need help with conditions such as:
● Allergies
● Behavioral disorders such as ADD/ADHD
● Sleep problems
● Ear, nose and throat problems
● Digestive problems such as constipation and diarrhoea
● Coughs, colds and snotty noses
● Immune problems including recurrent infections
● Skin disorders

What Others Have to Say
Nerida’s Story – A Successful VBAC thanks to Homeopathic Medicine and Massage
I worked with Nerida during her third pregnancy initially addressing nausea, fatigue and allergies. Towards the end of her pregnancy Nerida said that she “really needed to have this VBAC”. Her previous two labours had been very slow with uncoordinated and inefficient contractions resulting in a Caesarian delivery for her second child. Nerida had a strong interest in Homoeopathic medicine so we decided to go with two particular remedies traditionally used to strengthen and co-ordinate labour contractions. Nerida phoned me on a Monday morning very stressed and anxious as her contractions had started on the Saturday and were still occurring, however they were very weak and uncoordinated, she was fearful that the labour would not progress and would follow the same course as the last one ending in a Caesarian. We increased the frequency of the remedy over the course of that day and she had organised for a massage therapist to visit her house that evening. I received a phone call the next day that her little boy had been born at 4.30am and the labour had progressed perfectly which she attributed to the Homeopathic medicines and her massage treatment.
“My journey using natural therapies for my family still continues. My daughter Joanna, breast fed for the first 3 years of her life has only ever had colds and now it is very rare that she gets sick. Supplements have helped and we continue to balance whole foods against more processed foods. Thank you Sarah for your continued support over the years, helping my family in their quest for better health.” Louise, mother of Joanna 8 years old
“My daughter son Christopher, 4 years old and daughter Caitlyn, 2 years old both suffered from eczema and recurrent colds and flu, and Christopher was also in hospital every month due to his asthma. We were tired and frustrated. Sarah prescribed herbs, advised on vitamins to be taken by our children, together with major changes to their diets. Gradually their health improved and the eczema cleared. My son’s asthma is much better and under control. No more hospital visits. Sarah also saved us from a frightening croup attack on my daughter. We had been to the hospital in an ambulance the night before and she was given a shot of steroids and we were told it was a virus would cure itself. We went to see Sarah the next morning about Caitlyn’s non stop, barking cough. She gave a herbal cough medicine and a homoeopathic remedy. It worked wonders!!! We cannot thank Sarah enough for introducing us to natural therapies, and we especially thank her for the endless support and being there for all of us.” Lina, mother of Christopher 61/2 years and Caitlyn 41/2 years old
“I had such a positive birthing experience, Ava was born in water as I had hoped for, in just a few short hours and I know the Homeopathic preparation and reading you lent me helped towards this” Katie, James and Ava
“Thank you so much for your help over the last two and a half years, because of your advice we have made so many great changes and come so far. Thank you for being gentle and never pushing changes too fast, only when we were ready. Because of this I never felt bombarded and the changes were easy to make one at a time – and they have stayed!” Justine, mother of Alex and Carina
A Little Bit About Sarah
I graduated from Nature Care College in 1999 with an advanced Diploma of Naturopathy and Nutrition. I completed my diploma of Remedial massage in 1996 and diploma of Botanical Medicine in 2002. I am currently working in bits and pieces at completing a Master’s Degree in Herbal Medicine. From 1999 to 2005 I worked at Wholistic Health Care in Gladesville where I ran weekend workshops for parents “Natural Remedies for Childhood Complaints”, in conjunction with fellow Naturopath, Christine Wiltshier. I was incredibly privileged to work with Christine Wiltshier when I first graduated as a Naturopath as it was under her guidance that I began to specialise in Natural Medicine for children, pregnancy and post partum care. At this time there were very few naturopaths with her experience in treating children and mothers.
I began offering pregnancy massage as a service at a time when many massage therapists still believed that it was not safe to massage women during pregnancy. Touch is a powerful healing tool, massage is not only effective for treating muscle aches and pains but is also a time that many people stop thinking and focus on the physical sensations in their body – no longer worrying about the past or the future, instead fully grounded in the present moment. Breathing becomes deeper and slower, the fight and flight or stress response is switched off and healing at a deeper level is able to occur. I like to think of massage as a “power meditation”!
I am passionate about diet and nutrition and promote a healthy diet as neither boring nor hard work, it’s simply a case of getting back to basics. When I look around at what is happening to our children’s health at the present moment I am motivated to work harder to reach as many parents, children and future parents as possible, to help educate and inspire them that diet and nutrition is the key to stopping the decline in our health. How many children did you know when you were a child who would die if they ate a peanut? How many children at your school suffered from asthma or ADHD? Our immune systems are becoming weaker and deranged, our rate of fertility is declining and chronic, degenerative and highly preventable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, dementia and many cancers are affecting so many more people and at a much younger age. Despite amazing advances in medicine and technology, our life expectancy is predicted to decline for the first time in 1000 years due to the dramatic increase in these diseases. All of which are largely preventable with a healthy diet! The answers to so many of our health problems lie in our shopping trolleys and kitchens.
I look forward to working with you and your family on your journey towards a healthier future!
In good health, naturally
