About Andrew
Andrew has an extensive background in Perth's emergency services, working in the WA Police before beginning a career as an ambulance officer. After 8 years as an ambulance officer and lecturer for the WA Ambulance Service, he was promoted to a Director position. In 1995 he left St John and was subsequently employed as CEO of SIDS and Kids in WA. Whilst working as a CEO, Andrew returned to study, completing 3 diplomas and a degree over a 5 year period. He set up TNC in 1999 and it quickly grew to be one of Australia's busiest and most successful single practitioner clinics. In 2010 Andrew was invited to be a member of the Health Education Advisory Committee for the WA Education Department - advising on and reviewing natural medicine degree applications. He served on that committee throughout 2010 and into 2011, reviewing submissions for a number of degree programs.
Andrew is a passionate public speaker and has lectured student naturopaths, nursing and medical students, community groups and at international conferences in Germany and Australia. Andrew has high professional standards and will take your health very seriously. As a former ambulance officer, he likes to see quick results! Assuming regular visits, along with dietary and supplement compliance, the vast majority of patients experience improvements in energy, health and painful conditions within 2 - 6 weeks.
Vitality, Longevity and Aging (VLA) available at TNC
Bio impedance analysis is available at the centre with Jasmine Riley - on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays. The screening gives a report which covers the following health parameters:
Biological age compared to chronological age a highly effective and motivational tool which provides data that can be compared and contrasted on a regular basis
Active Tissue Mass (ATM) the amount of muscle and organ tissue in your body
ATM quality assesses the physical energy and quality of your Active Tissue Mass
Fat levels levels of fat especially the hidden fat surrounding organs
Cellular Fluid Balance showing the amount of fluid in the cells and outside the cells (intra and extra cellular fluid) may indicate inflammation or organ dysfunction
Ideal weight for your height and frame size
Amount of fat to lose (in kg)
Amount of ATM (muscle) to gain
BMI Body Mass Index
Cardiovascular risk based on Australian health comparative data
The test provides excellent, motivational information which helps in your quest for better health.
Other tests that are available include:
Urinalysis tests protein digestion and gut dysbiosis levels, giving a good assessment of your digestive health
Zinc Taste Test accurately determines whether a zinc supplement is necessary. Zinc is an essential mineral that is central to many metabolic processes. An imbalance can cause problems with your immune system, energy levels, digestion and skin
Blood Pressure

Testimonials
After 2 years of painful golfer's elbow, GP visits and cortisone injections, I decided to try a naturopath. After a couple of visits to Thornlie Naturopathic Centre, Andrew had my pain under control and now I am pain free. The treatment helped my back and neck problems as well. I have no hesitation in recommending Andrew to family and friends.
Max Cross, Huntingdale WA
On a recent visit to WA I was encouraged by my son to see what the Thornlie Naturopathic Centre could do to help regain energy lost as a result of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. After completing an 8 week course of friendly understanding, herbal medications, Bowen Therapy and acupuncture, I experienced a considerable increase in energy levels and was spending more hours awake during the day than I had before the treatment...
Upon arrival back home in NSW my neighbour Bill said, "You certainly look a whole lot better. Before you left you looked like you wanted to hang yourself, but you didn't have the energy to tie the knot." I believe the improvement was due to the treatment of Andrew at TNC.
Barry Dean, School Principal, Wagga Wagga NSW
On a recent holiday which involved a lot of travelling and walking I was reminded again how much my life-style has improved, since I first went to Thornlie Naturopathic Centre. I had been on steroids for four years after being diagnosed with Polymyalgia. Six months after my initial visit to Andrew I can say that the combination of natural medication (no steroids), prescribed exercise and a monthly Bowen Therapy session has changed my life! I am not totally symptom free but I am able to plan ahead knowing that every day I will be able to be involved in an active and satisfying life.

Description of services
Naturopathic consultation, consists of the completion of a comprehensive health questionnaire which covers medical history, supplements taken, medications prescribed from GP, nature of presenting problem e.g. pain, tiredness. A complete dietary record is taken for a typical day, including amount of water, snack foods, coffee, tea, alcohol and other drugs. We then discuss your preferred outcome from the visit and prioritise treatment. A computer image of your eyes will be taken, with observations discussed. If attending for a pain issue, iridology will be replaced with the most appropriate form of physical treatment from the list below. At the end of the consultation, a range of supplement or herbal remedies will be discussed with the option of purchasing any considered appropriate to help with your general well being. The supplements are "practitioner only" and are restricted for use by health care professionals. Once the initial appointment has been completed, supplements are available for purchase over the counter between follow up consultations i.e. an appointment is not necessary every time a repeat is required, however, cases will require review within a reasonable time frame to ensure that the supplement supplied is the best option for long term use. As a general rule, a follow up appointment is booked for 2 weeks following the initial, to ensure that you are starting to feel better and to review supplements. If Bowen Therapy has been chosen, three visits will be booked, one week apart, followed by a complete review. Most clients feel significantly better, or at least better within themselves within 3 - 4 appointments.
Acupuncture, is an ancient system of medicine, involving the stimulation of specific points on the body with fine needles. Modern research has discovered that the points are active and that acupuncture results in the following reactions:
*change of brain waves to Alpha (relaxed state)
*increase in endorphins (hormones which improve your sense of wellbeing and reduce pain)
*an increase in the white blood cell count (which helps to fight infection)
Acupuncture can be very effective pain relief and brings about a deep sense of relaxation. Needles are very fine, and in the hands of an experienced practitioner are relatively painless.
In Western Australia there are two main methods of acupuncture: - Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture - which utilises a complex system of balancing points with the aim of bringing "chi" flow into balance, and Western Clinical Acupuncture, which uses known acupuncture points in a manner aimed to relieve the cause and symptoms - without primarily focussing on TCM diagnostic signs. (Some practitioners will apply a combination of both.) A TCM practitioner will examine multiple pulse points in both wrists, along with tongue coatings and colours. They will then apply techniques associated with those signs. A Western Clinical practitioner will identify signs and symptoms of the pain or condition, then use acupuncture points known to help the condition. Often, TCM practitioners in Australia are degree qualified people who specialise primarily in acupuncture and the use of traditional Chinese herbs, moxibustion - applying heat to needles and points, and cupping - the use of suction cups over acupuncture points. Western Clinical Acupuncture is usually utilised in practice by GP's, naturopaths, physiotherapists and other practitioners - for whom acupuncture is a complementary treatment to their main therapeutic approach. These practitioners usually have a post graduate acupuncture qualification rather than a degree. Both TCM and Western Clinical practitioners may use acupuncture as a stand alone approach, or a combination of acupuncture and other remedies.
TNC applies Western Clinical Acupuncture in conjunction with any other physical remedy deemed appropriate. Usually, homeopathic creams, and herbal or mineral supplements are suggested along with acupuncture - with the aim of relieving the condition as soon as possible. Usually, patients will require at least 6 - 10 sessions of acupuncture before they recover or notice significant change.
Bowen Therapy, involves gentle, cross fibre muscle movements. The therapy was developed in Australia by the late Mr Tom Bowen. In the majority of cases, clients notice a significant reduction in long standing painful back conditions within 3 treatments. The therapy is completely safe for all ages, from small children to the elderly.
Biomesotherapy, involves the use of specialised homoeopathic remedies and injections of saline under the skin over acupuncture points or painful areas. The German technique (a branch of Homotoxicology) is based on neural therapy, and has been used in Europe for over 30 years - with huge success, particularly for serious joint and muscle pain.
Dorn Spinal Therapy, originated in Germany over 30 years ago. The technique involves a complete spinal assessment, including a leg length comparison. Precise pressure is then applied to any painful vertebrae, and the client's own arm or leg movements help to move the spinal structure into a more comfortable position. Exercises to maintain leg length and relieve spinal tension are then given. Whilst there are only a few qualified practitioners in Western Australia, this technique is becoming more popular, and is sure to be in high demand as more people become aware of its benefits.
Iridology, is the study of the eye, particularly the iris. Many Naturopaths use iridology to identify potential lines of interview for a naturopathic consultation, as they believe that different eye colours and markings within the fibres can be representative of injuries or illness. Iridology should not be taken as a medical diagnosis and must always be coupled with a comprehensive medical history and physical evaluation. It is often very helpful in identifying potential blood sugar imbalances, excessive adrenal function and stress. Any signs found will always be thoroughly investigated to determine whether they are relevant to each individual.
