  • Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Firstly you must know that acupuncture needles are not like the needles they use when you go to the doctors. Acupuncture needles are about the same thickness as a piece of hair. Most of the needles are pain free however there is the odd one, which at worst feels like a mosquito bite.
The needles used in TLC Acupuncture Clinic are 0.2 of a mm or smaller in thickness. These needles are so fine that most of the time there is no mark left on your skin and no blood.
Most patients find acupuncture to be very relaxing and enjoyable.

    Is Acupuncture Safe?

Unfortunately there are some practicing acupuncturist out there that are not safe, and not properly trained, however the laws and legislation in Queensland is about to change in regards to who can practice.
Our acupuncturist Tracey Beatty has already met the required qualifications for these new laws and has completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) and is a registered member of ANTA, The Australian Natural Therapist Association.
TLC Acupuncture Clinic maintains the highest level of hygiene standards and only uses high quality sterile needles, which are not reused and are properly disposed of, after each treatment.

    How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is all about balancing the energy of the body. Your acupuncturist will ask you a variety of questions to determine how the energy is flowing in the body. From this they may tell which organs have too much energy and are being overworked and which organs don’t have enough energy and are not working properly. Your acupuncturist can then use the needles to move the energy around and bring the body back into balance.

It is the Chinese medical belief that all disease occurs from an imbalance of energy.

Acupuncture is not spiritual or religious and it does not require you to believe in it for it to work. When we talk about energy flowing through the body we are talking about electrical and nerve impulses.

    What Happens In a Treatment?

In the first session your acupuncturist will take a full medical history as well as discussing any current health concerns. She may also check your eyes, tongue and pulse to gain further insight into your health. This information will help her to develop an individualized treatment plan.

The total treatments times vary from person to person and range from 45 minutes to an hour.

    Services

    Acupuncture

$80 for initial treatment (1 hour and 15 minutes )
$70 for follow up treatments (45 minutes)

TLC Acupuncture Clinic maintains the highest level of care and is registered with most health funds allowing our patients to claim the health fund rebates.

    Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic Acupuncture helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing muscles and stimulating collagen production. An average of ten treatments is required before results are seen however some people noticed a difference after just one treatment.

    Cupping and Guasha

Cupping is an ancient Chinese technique which releases muscular tension/spasms and is particularly good for neck pain, back pain and leg pains.

The air is extracted from the sterile glass cups with fire and placed over the affected area which creates suction. The treatment will leave a bruise in the affected area which should fade over a three day period. Rest assured this treatment does not hurt and feels like a massage. The results from cupping are relatively instantaneous and you should feel some relief from muscular tension by the end of the treatment.

    Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine like acupuncture has been around for approximately 5000 years. The benefits of Chinese herbal medicine are just as great as acupuncture.

Our practitioner Tracey Beatty only uses patent formulas in pill form, from reputable companies.
    • Chinamed
    • Black pearl
    • Red Peony

All herbs sold in TLC Acupuncture Clinic have been approved by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) which insures all imported products meet the Australian safety standards in both herbal content and quality control.

    Iridology

Iridology is an examination of the colour and structure of the eye to determine ones state of health and inherited weaknesses. Our Acupuncturist Tracey Beatty has studied iridology as well as Tradition Chinese medicine and has found a way to incorporate the two for a better understanding of each patient’s health and their genetic weaknesses.
