What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is the science of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease using a holistic approach. Naturopathy views the body as having its own innate healing ability, called the vital force - in other cultures this is known as chi or prana. A Naturopath promotes this self-healing ability by prescribing natural therapies such as herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, homoeopathy and diet & lifestyle advice.

These treatments are safe and suitable for all ages, including infants and the elderly, when taken under professional supervision. Many parents concerned with the possible side effects of conventional medication are turning to gentler, safer treatments such as Naturopathy for themselves and their children.

Naturopaths recognise that every individual is different, as are the symptoms of illnesses, and so customise treatments specifically to suit that individual. This is what sets the naturopathic profession apart from other health practitioners.

Whether a complaint is acute or chronic, the science of naturopathy focuses not only on relief of symptoms, but also addresses the underlying causes in order to restore complete wellness.

Types of Treatments

Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is a branch of Naturopathy which uses various plants as medicinal agents in the treatment of disease. Plant substances have been used for thousands of years to promote recovery, health and well-being; and are the foundation of modern pharmacology.

Clinical Nutrition
It is widely known that diseased states may occur from poor diet and lifestyle, and many long standing health problems may be effectively treated once nutrient deficiencies, excesses or sensitivities have been identified. Often a condition improves through changes in diet alone.

Homoeopathy
Homoeopathy uses minute amounts of prepared natural substances to stimulate the body´s healing ability.

Developed in the 1700´s, homoeopathy is based on the principal of “like cures like”. A medicine that creates particular symptoms in a well person can be given to relieve the same symptoms in an unwell person.
