POLARITY THERAPY

History

Polarity Therapy was developed by Dr Randolph Stone (1890 -1981), a pioneer in holistic health care. Dr Stone held degrees in osteopathic, naturopathic and chiropractic medicine. He studied and tested health theories from around the world for over sixty years, successfully combining ancient and modern theories and techniques.
Dr Stone taught that the body, emotions, mind and spirit are interdependent and simple steps can be taken to improve wellness.

What is Polarity Therapy?

Polarity Therapy is a comprehensive health system involving energy-based bodywork, including diet, exercise and self-awareness. It works with the human energy field.
Energy fields and currents exist everywhere in nature. Polarity therapy asserts that the flow and balance of energy in the human body is the foundation of good health. Energy balancing is a central concept in many ancient and traditional health care systems.

How does it work?

Polarity Therapy is a gentle system of hands on healing which works with the body’s natural flow of energy. When energy flow becomes blocked, it can lead to pain, tension, illness or disease. Clearing and balancing this circulating energy helps your body heal itself naturally. Polarity Therapy promotes deep relaxation, once you are relaxed your bodies own natural intelligence will automatically correct any temporary imbalance of energy and good health will be restored.
Polarity Therapy works because it is designed to help the whole person, not just the part that hurts.

Bodywork
The session does not require disrobing, but wearing loose, comfortable clothing during the treatment is encouraged.
The client lies on a standard massage table, while the practitioner palpates a variety of contacts points on the body to stimulate and balance the body’s electromagnetic fields.
The practitioner may also help the client process feelings and develop specific strategies for reducing stress and increasing wellness.

Diet
Polarity Therapy diets promote cleansing and longevity with fresh wholesome foods adapted to individual needs.

Exercise
Polarity Yoga is a series of simple self-help energy techniques that create relaxation and balance. Combining Polarity Therapy with Yoga stretching postures, diet and meditation, will assist to affirm the flow of natural energy within the body, that will maintain a sense of well-being.

Self Awareness
Practitioners encourage clients to understand themselves and to view the world from a positive perspective.

Who would benefit?

Polarity Therapy is helpful for everyone from infants to the elderly. It is even effective on animals.

REFLEXOLOGY

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms. Reflexology is the science that deals with the principle that there are areas on the feet and hands, which correspond to the major glands and organs of the body. By using pressure on a specific area of the foot, an effect will be stimulated on the corresponding area or organ of the body.

How can reflexology help?

Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance. Reflexology has been shown to be helpful for many stress related conditions.

Reflexology improves circulation
We all know that blood carries vital nutrients through the body, and also carries away toxins and waste products. One of the symptoms of a stressful life is a decrease in blood circulation. An improvement in circulation will allow the body to receive the nutrients carried in blood, and also eliminate the waste products more effectively.

Reflexology helps the body remove toxins
Other than the circulatory system, the body has other methods for removing waste products (eg. the lymphatic system and the digestive system). A stressful situation will cause these systems to operate below par. Reflexology has the effect of increasing the flow and movement of these systems by helping to decrease the stress held in the body.

Reflexology revitalises energy
Most of us complain of 'low energy' from time to time. It can appear as an inability to concentrate, a lack of motivation for things that usually excite us, or a physical feeling of tiredness. Reflexology, in making us feel better about ourselves, opens the pathways to increasing the energy levels and renewing us – both immediately after the treatment and sometimes for several days afterwards.

Who can benefit from reflexology?

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of conditions. After you have completed a few sessions of reflexology for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being. Reflexology helps us to cope on a physical, mental and emotional level thereby encouraging us to heal and maintain health in all areas of our lives.

What happens when I go for treatment?

On the first visit, the reflexology practitioner will have a preliminary talk with you to determine your present and past health and lifestyle. The reflexologist will then use their hands to apply pressure to the feet. The application and the effect of the therapy is unique to each person. A treatment session usually lasts for about one hour. A course of treatment may be recommended depending on your body’s needs.
During a treatment, your only requirement is to lie down, face up, with your feet exposed. There is no rolling over, no fussing around with towels and sheets – you stay completely still. This in itself induces a sense of deep peacefulness. Combined with soft music, lighting and essential oils, the treatment will be very relaxing.

How will I feel after a reflexology treatment?

Many people fall asleep during a treatment, and feel very refreshed on waking. After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation or they feel more energised; sometimes people report feeling lethargic or tearful, but this is transitory and is a part of the healing process. This is vital information to feed back to the reflexologist as it shows how your body is responding to treatment. This will help the reflexologist to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.
