It's incredible how we allow stress to constantly build up without doing anything about it and the same can be said of muscle strains - as long as we're not incapacitated we grin and bear it. So, at the first available time I could squeeze into a jam-packed schedule I headed to Two Hands Body Therapies (easy parking) at Cottontree.
I was welcomed by massage practitioner and owner Richard Scott, who led me through the busy clinic into a calming massage room complete with fluffy towels and soothing candlelight.
I adore massages, however, there is a big difference between a good massage and a great one, so I couldn't help asking Richard a few questions prior to my massage bliss. I discovered he has been in massage for four years as a practitoner, although he did his first massage over twenty years ago.He comes from a background in sports massage "Massage is what I was meant to do," he says. "It's my passion. It's a knowing l have been blessed with, l use it as best l can".
Richard formalised his qualifications at Unity School of Healing in Nambour but doesn't just follow the textbooks. "It's intuitive," he says. "I massage in a way that I feel the body needs, I don't work out of a book. Sometimes clients want to chill and sometimes they have special needs. Whatever the body requires I cater for it."
As the main therapist at Two Hands, Richard works across the board covering everything from relaxation to sports massage as well as hahana hot stone massage.
My massage was absolute bliss as Richard worked hard to release long-held tension and clenched muscles. He used trigger techniques that I had never experienced before but it certainly impressed me. Working from hip to head my body began to feel back to normal in a rush of soothing balance. Richard is certainly a skilled and knowledgeable professional.
As my muscles creaked and groaned in protest, they finally relaxed back into their normal positions and my shoulders dropped down with a sigh of relief - yes, a massage definitely is an essential part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
