ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture aims to restore health to the body through the stimulation of extremely small hair-thin needles on specific areas of the body known as acupuncture points. Acupuncture is an historically advanced method of releasing blocked energy in, as yet, unseen pathways of the body. Although these pathways are not visually ‘seen’ it is common to feel the effects of a release of blocked energy in these pathways also called meridians or channels. These effects for clients range from being able to take a deep breath, to feeling relaxed, bloating of the stomach diminished or as most commonly used, to feel relief from pain.

A typical treatment at Ultra Health Therapies™ may include the combined use of any of the following modalities:

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • Dr Manaka’s Polarity Therapy
  • Sotai
  • Toyohari Acupuncture
  • Chinese Herbal Medicine (patent herbs only)
  • Moxibustion
  • Cupping
  • Ear candling
  • Gua Sha

Also see Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture for the ancient secret used by the Chinese Emperor’s concubines to maintain their youthful beauty.

SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN

Dr Manaka’s Polarity Therapy treatment may be used to reduce the pain and discomfort felt from radiation burns produced as a side effect in the treatment of breast cancer. Dr Manaka was instrumental in the use of acupuncture combined with frequency to reduce pain felt from burns to the skin.

HELPFUL HINT

Acupressure is a quick and effective tension releaser—it can reduce stress by up to 39 percent, according to researchers at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. For fast relief, massage the fleshy area between your thumb and index finger for 20 to 30 seconds.

CUPPING

Is an ancient technique used to promote movement, increase circulation and relieve painful conditions of the body.
Cupping is one of the many tools used by traditional Chinese medicine practitioners during a treatment.
The application of cupping is through suction. The suction gives you a feeling of tightness which is different to the feeling of pressure that you would get during a massage.
The action of the suction of the cups promotes self healing.
During a treatment with the Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners at Ultra Health Therapies cupping will be used to help relieve many conditions some of which are listed here...
• sore and tight muscles
• the relief of cold and flu
• stiff neck, shoulder and joint pain
• relief of lower back pain
• used to reduce cellulite.
There are very few side effects experienced with cupping. Not everyone is suitable for cupping and a full consultation with one of our experienced practitioners will ensure a safe and effective treatment outcome.
This therapy is used in conjunction with the holistic approach of Traditional Chinese medicine and therefore does not incur a singular cost.

GUA SHA

Gua Sha is another ancient technique incorporated into traditional Chinese medicine to promote health and wellbeing and relieve painful, sore and tight muscle conditions.
Some of it’s uses are listed here..
• Relaxes tired muscles
• Relieves pain in the neck, back and shoulders
• Releases colds and flus
• Improves skin tone and texture.
Gua Sha is the scraping over an area of skin with a tool that is smooth, does not piece the skin but is rather effective in removing tightness, stiffness and congestion in the tissues underneath. In TCM theory this is called releasing the wind. Once again this is different to just pressure received from a massage. It is used for specific areas and you can feel the benefit almost immediately.
Gua Sha is very safe. There may be some mild superficial bruising but this will leave the skin quickly and usually doesn’t last more than three days if it does occur.

TOYOHARI ACUPUNCTURE

Toyohari is a style of traditional acupuncture that is relatively new to Australia. It is a refined system of Japanese meridian therapy. It is different from other styles of acupuncture due to its founder Fukushima Kodo. A Toyohari Registered Practitioner in Australia has undergone post graduate training in Australia and often overseas, guided by some highly skilled and recognised acupuncturists and scholars in their fields.
A Registered Toyohari practitioner's aim, like other traditionally based acupuncture methods, is to restore balance and harmony to the individual through the activation within the meridians or channels of the body. The balance of 'ki' (also known as 'qi') is done through the use of delicate and often non-inserted acupuncture techniques.
As a client receiving treatment you would expect to feel better after each session. You may or may not feel the needles. You may or may not feel something happening, but a lighter more relaxed feeling is often the best feedback to a correctly given treatment. How many sessions required usually depends on many variables that are discussed with your practitioner during your consultation.

SHONISHIN

Shonishin is a non-invasive method of balancing the Meridian channels in children and babies. Special tools are used to encourage the qi to moved past the stagnation or blockage in the meridian or energy channels. As a child grows their immune system develops and sometimes due to unknown factors the immune system can’t cope and the child needs a helping hand to get on top of their chronic congestion.

FACIAL REJUVENATION ACUPUNCTURE

Facial Rejuvenation and Cosmetic Acupuncture are Anti-Ageing treatments that require no 'down' time, no chemicals or harmful substances and makes you feel good on the inside and look fantastic on the outside.
Acupuncture has been used for centuries to enhance beauty and promote health. Facial Rejuvenation and Cosmetic Acupuncture use your body's own healing processes to promote facial muscle relaxation, increase circulation to reduce dryness, reduce visible lines and revive a healthy glow and refined texture to the skin.
You will notice a difference from the very first treatment.

MASSAGE

Massage promotes health, reduces stress, improves circulation and may assist with increased mobility in joints from arthritis, sciatic pain and chronic pain conditions. Regular massage has been shown to reduce stress felt at work or home. Regular massage may help restore balance and function to muscles that are cramped and sore.

AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE

Aromatherapy Massage uses the benefits or regular massage with your very own personalized blend of Essential Oils. The natural aromatic compounds in the individual Essential Oils are transported throughout the body via the bloodstream enhancing the body's own healing mechanisms. This produces a powerful therapeutic response on the physical, emotional, & psychological planes.
Essential Oils used by a qulaified Clinical Aromatherapist, are chosen specifically for their properties to enhance your therapeutic massage.
Essential Oils during a massage at Ultra Health TherapiesTM are blended with quality ‘carrier’ oils. Properties of Essential Oils do not just include the fragrance but have physical and emotional actions which include: - anti-bacterial, antiseptic, sedative, uplifting, anti-spasmodic, calming, stimulating, balancing, anti-depressant, detoxifying analgesic and grounding effects.
A Clinical Aromatherapist may customise a remedy for an individual’s needs.

Some examples:
Mood disorders
Reproductive issue
Ear, nose & throat infection
Respiratory conditions like bronchitis
Digestive disorders
Arthritic & muscular aches or pains
Skin conditions
Detoxification

After receiving an Aromatherapy Massage you may be more open to communication, have a better memory while your focus and concentration is improved. You may also experience a recharge to your 'batteries' which will enable you to better achieve personal and workplace goals.

WARM STONE THERAPY

Warm Stone Therapy is associated with a massage that you could have in a Spa Environment. However at Ultra Health Therapies TM we incorporate all the benefits of a traditional massage, and include the powerful benefits of heat therapy.

When heat is applied to the body during a massage, it brings about a complete feeling of relaxation. The more you relax in your treatment as a client the deeper the treatment can go. Increased circulation means there is an increased healing affect that the body can do which gives you an incredibly intense feeling of wellbeing.

The benefits may include reduced muscle cramps and pain. It may help reduce chronic pain from poor posture and over-tiredness.

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a method of hands on treatment for the feet. Specific points used on the soles of the feet activate the healing powers of the body. The body has many Microsystems that help empower other areas of the body. The feet act as a reflex area for the whole body. By using pressure point therapy on the soles of the feet the circulation may be improved to areas such as sinus, headache relief, menstrual pain, body aches and pains. Relaxation and the calming of the body is the outcome achieved after each treatment leaving you with a floating feeling after each half hour session.

NATUROPATHY

Naturopathy combines natural therapies such as:
herbal medicine
nutrition
homoeopathy
flower essences
and supplemental therapy for the treatment of illness and restoration of wellbeing.
A Naturopath views the individual from a holistic perspective using symptoms as a guide rather than a diagnosis, treating the body as an integral whole.

HOMOEOPATHY

Homoeopathy is a complete system of medicine developed by German physician and chemist, Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), based on the principle of "like cures like". For example, coffee stimulates the nervous system and the production of urine. A homoeopathic dose of coffee can cure a patient troubled with unusual mental activity and sleeplessness together with excessive production of urine.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Craniosacral Therapy is a hands-on the body technique where you, the client, is in comfortable clothes and lying face up on the massage table. Craniosacral Therapy helps to boost your general well-being, reduce your stress, improves your quality of sleep and has the ability to increase your energy by enhancing the function of your body's organs via the nervous system.
Craniosacral Therapy is a non-invasive therapy that works with the entire structure, physiology, mind and spirit.

Craniosacral Therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions and can be used to treat everyone including babies and young children through to pregnant women and adults.
Craniosacral Therapy may be useful for the following conditions:-
• Migraines & Headaches
• Chronic neck and back pain
• Motor co-ordination
• Stress and tension related problems
• Infantile disorders
• Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries
• Chronic fatigue
• Scoliosis
• Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)
• Autism of certain types
• Learning disabilities
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Orthopedic problems
• Digestive Disorders and colic

BOWEN THERAPY

Bowen Therapy is a holistic and multidimensional approach to pain relief and healing that has achieved remarkable results over the past 50 years. It is based on the recognition by Tom Bowen, its originator, who lived and practiced in Geelong, Victoria, that the underlying cause or source of many musculoskeletal, neurological, neuromuscular and other health or pain problems could be found in the soft tissue or fascia.

Bowen Therapy, through specific soft tissue or fascial release and integration techniques, stimulate specific receptors that enable the body itself to correct dysfunctions and restore homeostasis (balance) on a holistic level.

Through treating the cause rather than the symptoms Bowen Therapy has consistently shown it can have profound and permanent healing and pain relief outcomes. This relief is experienced by many people who present with a wide range of painful conditions, even where other modalities or treatments have resulted in transient or little improvement. Importantly, Bowen Therapy, being holistic, does not rely on a detailed diagnosis of the problem and its origins, which is often costly and indeterminate.
Bowen Therapy treats the whole body, and its holistic effects are apparent in patients who find resolution to problems above and beyond those for which they have sought treatment, for example lack of energy, stress or emotional issues.

CLINICAL NUTRITION

Nutrition plays a critical role in restoration and maintenance of health and wellbeing. This includes both macronutrient requirements (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats), as well as micronutrients, (vitamins and minerals), which play a significant role in proper metabolic functioning. Associated with this, is the treatment and support of a healthy, functioning gut. Individualised support and education is provided in nutritional counselling and dietary solutions, food allergy elimination, detoxification support and, where necessary, nutritional supplements.

COUNSELLING

Holistic counselling acknowledges that true wellness occurs on all levels - physical, mental, and emotional. It is an integrated approach to supporting personal health and wellbeing, which can result in a range of important issues and their outcome.

KINESIOLOGY

"Kinesiology, literally the study of body movement, encompasses holistic health disciplines which use gentle muscle testing to monitor information about a person’s well-being. It originated in the 1960’s, combining Western techniques with Eastern wisdom to promote physical, emotional and spiritual health. Kinesiology identifies factors which block the body’s natural healing processes. These dysfunctions are rectified by attention to reflex and acupressure points, the use of specific body movements and nutritional support. Kinesiology can relieve pain, stress, muscular and nervous disorders, detect allergies and nutritional deficiencies, assist with psychological and learning problems, stimulate energies and release untapped potential." (Definition officially recognised by British Parliament)

Put simply, Kinesiology can assist in reducing stress and pain, improve performance at school, work and home, in sports, in relationships, and promote health and well-being.

AUSTRALIAN BUSH FLOWER ESSENCES

Ian White, founder of Australian Bush Flower Essences, says “A Flower Essence is an extremely diluted liquid that contains the essence and vibrations of a flower. It is used to bring clarity to the conscious mind and resolve negative beliefs. Flower Essences also directly affect us at the subconscious level where we make decisions about our emotions, health, energy, abilities, life directions and relationships. As a result, real physical change and emotional healing occurs.”

TRACEY WINTER
(BHScAcu, Reg. Toyohari Pract., Dip. Rem. Therapies)

I first began my career into natural therapies as a graduate of massage and reflexology in the mid 1990’s. Continuing my passion in this field, I began my studies into acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in 1998. After graduating from the Bachelor’s Degree at Australian College of Natural Medicine, Gold Coast, I tutoured and lectured. I completed my post graduate training as a Toyohari Practitioner and use Manaka acupuncture protocols from East Asia. I was particularly drawn to the later two methods of acupuncture treatment as I suffered severe menstrual pain. After one 10 minute treatment with a Toyohari practitioner I was back at work as normal. It was a method that did not have a needle inserted and that was impressive!
