Philosophy
Trust and a good rapport are the most important things for me to establish if my client’s situation is to change for the better in therapeutic treatment. Also the client has to be motivated to change and accept responsibility for their life. If trust and motivation are not there, no amount of treatment will bring about real benefit.
My philosophy is that clients are coping the best way they can. Unfortunately, that way of coping may be inappropriate for the present situation, because we usually learn our coping skills in childhood. So it may be necessary to explore these inappropriate mechanisms and assist them to change. However, I do not believe in dealing with childhood issues if they are not relevant to present issues.
Often clients can see what the problem is, but cannot change the emotional attitude causing the problem. This is why I use a wide range of techniques, to find the right approach to individual emotional issues.
