About the Classes

Gentle Yoga and Meditation -this class introduces and expands on a selection of gentle physical practices, breathing practices and includes both meditation and yoga nidra. The class is suitable for those looking to gradually increase strength and flexibility and learn tools to manage the stresses in their lives more effectively. For those with physical limitations or injuries the practices can be modified. Each term new practices are introduced, and some existing practices are extended and consolidated. A theme may be introduced to give students a more rounded understanding of all aspects of yoga.

ABOUT SATYANANDA YOGA® CLASSES

Yoga is not exercise and it is not competitive - rather, it is gentle and is practiced within the student’s own ability. It energizes the body, rather than exhausting and stressing the body. Yoga is not a religion, but a holistic philosophy for happy, healthy living, and is practiced by people of all faiths.

The SATYANANDA YOGA® tradition aims to integrate body, mind, emotions and spirit, by providing a balanced sequence of practices in each session, with the emphasis on internalising the awareness. Each session begins with a short relaxation, followed by gentle postures (asanas), breathing practices, (pranayama), and meditation. The ever popular Yoga Nidra practice (deep relaxation), always concludes the class, and is unique to SATYANANDA YOGA® classes.

BENEFITS OF YOGA

The gentle asanas strengthen and tone the muscles, increase flexibility and core body strength. Practicing asanas with awareness, releases tensions and promotes reconnection and integration of mind and body. Pranayama improves lung function, stimulates and oxygenates the whole body, and balances and calms the mind. Meditation improves mental focus and balance, reducing stress and anxiety, leading to a more balanced and happier life. Yoga Nidra is a powerful technique which relaxes, revives and heals, at all levels, whilst helping you in achieving your desired aims in life.

About Lesley

She aims to integrate the teachings into her everyday life, and has had personal experience of the powerful healing and balancing potential of this style of yoga. This inspires her to offer the techniques to others, in her classes.

Lesley is also an experienced practicing visual artist, regularly exhibiting her photographic art. Her artworks can be seen in the colllections of Regional Galleries, Universities, and the Australian National Gallery as well as in many private collections, within Australia and overseas.

Her yoga and art practices are parallel and complementary, creative, spiritual pursuits.

Qualifications

Diploma in Satyananda Yoga Teaching and affiliated and accredited SATYANANDA YOGA teacher, ID no SYA12074.

She holds a Masters of Fine Art Degree(hons) (CoFA UNSW), and taught fine art photography in higher education for 20 years.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a simple, powerful technique, developed by Sw. Satyananda from ancient yogic knowledge - the practice of dynamic yogic sleep.

Yoga Nidra is deeply refreshing and revitalising, and brings many benefits. It is appropriate for children over 7 years, as well as adults. With regular practice one learns to fully and completely relax, at all levels - physically mentally and emotionally. This promotes the body's ability to heal itself. It is useful for recovery from both physical and emotional illnesses, and can help to overcome sleep difficulties, develop the memory and increase knowledge and creativity. Through the sankalpa (resolve), you can learn to direct the unconscious mind to bring about change in your life - achieve goals, change your direction in life, and even make positive shifts in your behaviour and peronality.

Yoga Nidra for Children CD $20
Yoga Nidra for Adults - deep relaxation CD $20
