Private Yoga sessions
In yoga for scoliosis:
- the spine is offered traction (creating space, length and decompressing the spinal elements eg discs and facet joints),
- de-rotation is invited, together with specific ways of engaging the asymmetry of the body to create functional balance
- a balanced strength and stability is rebuilt around the new, felt and known, alignment.
- breath is cultivated throughout the three dimentionality of the lungs and ribcage.
Often underlying developmental movement patterns of support are missing or incomplete with scoliosis. Through asana applications, you will learn how to rebuild these patterns, and to support your spine in relationship with gravity.
Working in a scoliotic terrain herself, Narelle has a deep understanding of practicing yoga in scoliosis. It is the areana of her ongoing scholarly and experiential research.
Through the use of props (yoga equipment) and imagery processes, you will be guided to experience the interior body as felt and known landscape, the body accessible. Props enable a clear, intelligent, and incisive penetration of the body, uncovering otherwise dull areas. They elicit a clarity of direction and enable easeful alignment, where the flow of force can move cleanly though the body. Props play a vital role in practicing yoga with scoliosis! During your private session you will shown how to modify the work you have done in the studio, to practice effectively in your home environment. You will learn how to integrate your legs and arms into the spine, relieving back strain and collapse. Spinal support from a deep awareness of the organic body core and developmental movement patterns offer your body return to its full integration and connectivity in gravity and breath. Students working with spinal asymmetry will be exposed to ways to invite delicious length, liberating de-rotation and create functional balance and poise.
