The Yoga Room Mornington is a warm, welcoming, friendly space where you can feel comfortable to grow and develop your yoga practice.
With a dedicated and passionate approach to teaching we aim to build the Ashtanga Yoga, Mornington Peninsula Community, so that others can enjoy the physical health benefits and positive calming effects of a regular yoga practice.
A place to BREATHE, a place to PRACTICE, a place to CONNECT.
We offer daily yoga classes, mornings and evenings, to make it easier to build a regular practice. We have drop in classes and INTRO COURSES we recommend a beginner books into to build a strong foundation for practice.
ASHTANGA YOGA
Ashtanga Yoga is a complete and whole practice where the breath is synchronized with flowing movements, a process called Vinyasa, that links a set sequence of postures. It is a beautiful, powerful practice that is truly life changing. More than just a form of exercise, when practiced without force, it’s true essence unfolds. In Ashtanga the breath and movements produce an internal heat that has a cleansing effect on the body, melting away blockages both mental and physical, while developing strength and flexibility. It is an energetic and therapeutic form of yoga, creating a bridge between body and mind and when practiced consistently it eventually becomes a moving meditation.
Each posture is a preparation for the next, developing the strength and flexibility that is needed to progress through the series. Finding calm in your practice is what we work towards and assists in transforming body and mind. Your body will embrace the practice when done consistently and energy will be lifted.
Teachers
Karen was drawn to yoga while living in Vancouver in 1998 for it’s physical benefits, but soon found it to become a way of life. This led to training and becoming a teacher in 2000, and after teaching in Vancouver and Hawaii, moving back to Melbourne in 2002 to open a successful yoga studio in Elsternwick. Karen is grateful to have had the opportunity to study with many amazing teachers, including a year in Mysore at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. She has completed her Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher 500 hours certification and is a member of Yoga Teachers Association Australia. Her teaching is down to earth and aims at yoga being accessible to everyone, creating a welcoming space for the community on the Peninsula to embrace health and wellness through yoga.
Sean first discovered Ashtanga yoga while living in the USA in 1999. Yoga practice became a serious part of his life from 2004 after completing further yoga studies in Thailand and India. This permitted him to obtain the Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher 500 hours certification. He returned to live in Mysore India with his family in 2008 to really immerse himself in the practice from the source. Sean’s passion for holistic health not only led him to the path of yoga, but resulted in him becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic. His chiropractic studies gave him a deep understanding of anatomy which he is able to apply when teaching yoga and also when treating yogis as a chiropractor. Sean also teaches anatomy to yoga students abroad. QUALIFICATION DETAILS
