Developed in Japan this style of bodywork helps to promote health & well being by harmonising the body, mind and spirit. Shiatsu draws upon the the principles of Traditional Oriental Medicine and literally translated from Japanese, 'shi' means finger and 'atsu' means pressure.
The health and harmony of our minds and bodies depends upon our optimum levels of inherited constitution, as well as external elements which build and nurture energy, blood and mind. All pervading and travelling through many pathways in the body. Areas of the body that can become deficient of blood and energy soon give rise to overactivity within another area resulting in muscular tension, stress and blood stagnation. To rebalance and restore harmony within the body a series of compressive techniques using palms, thumbs, fingers, knuckles, elbows or feet may be used. Shiatsu does not require the use of oils and is usually performed fully clothed on a futon mat on the floor therefore comfortable, loose, cotton clothing should be worn.
Shiatsu affects all internal organs, muscles, ligaments, joints, nervous, endocrine and immune systems.

Assessment of the soft tissue followed by application of specific techniques using a variety of approaches such as breathing, slower tempo and rythym using fingers, thumbs, knuckles and elbows, incorporating trigger point therapy and myofascial release techniques to relieve muscle tension and soreness as well as restoring the return to range of movement of the joints.

A full body massage using long, rhythmic strokes including gliding, kneading and compression of the soft tissue using oil which is great for stress relief after a busy week at work, a great pick me up in times of low energy or as part of a regular time out just for you.
