QUALIFICATION DETAILSABOUT YOUR PRACTITIONERS
Brooke Allen
Brooke specialises in a variety of Oriental Therapies including Shiatsu, Traditional Thai Massage, Eastern Cupping Traditions (TCM & Thai) and Moxibustion.
Brooke holds a Diploma of Oriental Therapies (East West College of Natural Therapies - Melbourne Australia) and is a nationally accredited Shiatsu & Traditional Thai Massage Therapist. He is also the Tasmanian representitive of the Shiatsu Therapy Association of Australia (STAA). Brooke completed his Traditional Thai Massage Diploma with Bruce Bentley, one of the world's foremost authorities in this discipline who has been researching and practising in Australia and Thailand since the late 1970's. Bruce's Australian School of Tradititonal Thai Massage is based in Melbourne and is the only school outside Thailand to be recommended by the Wat Pho Thai Traditional Medical Association (Bangkok), headquarters of Thai medicine and massage for the past three centuries.
Clinical Qigong (Zi Ran Qigong) is integrated into Brooke’s treatments. Brooke continues his training in Eastern modalities under the guidance of Grandmaster Wayne Oldham (Chinese Doctor) - Tactile & Remedial Medical Specialist, who follows in the Tiedazhang tradition (Tieda means fall and hit, Zhang means Dr; also known as Bone-Setter). This is a long standing tradition of martial arts healers who specialise in injuries.
In 2002 Brooke commenced training in traditional Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Qigong. During this time Brooke has trained at the Shaolin Temple in China (the birth place of Kung Fu and Qigong) and continues to train under the guidance of Master Liu De Ming - fifth generation lineage - holder of the Zi Ran Men (Natural Gate), Zi Ran Qigong and Liu He (Six Harmonies) systems.
Brooke has achieved his instructor certification from Master Liu and also holds government accreditation with a Certificate III in Sport Coaching specialising in Martial Arts.
It was through Brooke’s traditional Chinese martial arts training and mentoring from Grandmaster Wayne that drew him onto the path of the Tiedazhnag tradition and the desire to become a body worker. Harnessing these modalities to enrich and improve the health and well being of others is Brooke's passion.
Studying the Eastern Arts and exploring the connections of the body, mind and spirit, are areas in which Brooke has dedicated his time and energy over a long period of time. It is Brooke’s aim to share these practices, traditions and unique wisdom to not only ensure they are not lost, but also to help people learn how to regulate their health through these modalities in order to live more balanced lives.
Brooke established Zest East West in Hobart, Tasmania with his wife Jennifer. Zest East West enables them to promote their belief in and passion for the benefits of these rare traditional Eastern health systems and modalities.
Jennifer Allen
Jennifer is an accredited Remedial Massage Therapist, recognised by the AAMT (Australian Association of Massage Therapists). She prides herself on her ability to approach every massage treatment according to the changing needs of each client by using a combination of modalities to get deeply therapeutic results.
Her philosophy is to work 'with' the body rather than 'on' it, applying the perfect amount of pressure to relieve pain and stress. Jennifer achieves this by using a variety of massage and bodywork modalities including Relaxation (Swedish), Aromatherapy, Remedial (Deep Tissue/Sports Massage), Cross-Fibre Mobilisation, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Tui Na, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Remedial Cupping and Pregnancy Massage.
In 2002, Jennifer commenced training in Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Qigong and soon developed a passion for the art. She was taught by and received Instructor Certification by Master Liu De Ming, fifth generation lineage holder of the Zi Ran Men, Zi Ran Qigong & Liu He (Six Harmonies) systems. Through her experience as an instructor, she became accredited with a nationally recognised Certificate III of Sports Coaching specialising in Martial Arts.
As a result of her martial arts training and remedial massage experience, Jennifer developed a strong self awareness of how the body has a tendency to hold tension, stress and emotions which have negative short and long term impacts on the body and mind, both in the form of muscular pain and dysfunction, through to increased susceptibility to illness and disease. The stress of the 'rat race' she experienced first hand heightened her awareness of the importance of achieving balance in work and life, and just how many people struggle to achieve this.
Jennifer was inspired by the powerful effects a combination of Massage, Shiatsu and Qigong had on improving her own quality of life, and from that moment on, she has dedicated herself to learning how to relieve people from the stresses and strains of daily life through eastern and western therapies, and sharing these with as many people as possible.
