Reptilian brain: controls breathing and heartbeat. This part of the brain remains active, even during deep sleep. It does not respond to logic or affirmations.
Limbic brain: deals with our emotions and instincts, as well as digestion, elimination, fight/flight response and sexual behaviour. This part of the brain is preoccupied with avoiding pain and seeking pleasure. It does not respond to self-control or willpower.
Cerebral Cortex: is the logical, rational thinking part of the brain.
In essence, permanent fat loss cannot be achieved with diet alone. In fact, dieting without addressing the emotional/neurological issues associated with excess weight and ‘fatness’ turns people into professional yo-yo dieters leading to more frustration with their weight and body image.
