Energy, Awareness and hypnotherapy, the essential tools for change

  • December 12, 2008 10:45am
  • Discussion categories: Hypnotherapy

I am a hypnotherapist, I am also an energy healer, I am also a person who has a lifetime of personal experience and knowledge (which I value far more than any formal training I’ve completed). I also practice certain spiritual disciplines, and meditate in a way that allows me to tap into Universal wisdom (which I see as far more valuable than any intellectual knowledge I can acquire).

When I began my own journey toward healing I was in a dark and desolate place in life. I’d been addicted to marijuana for 17 years, I had depression (not diagnosed, but…

Matters of the Heart

The most painfully confusing topic in our lives often seems to be in the realm of the heart. No matter who we are, what we know or what we think we know why is it that when it comes to matters of the heart, we are often overwhelmed by confusion? In truth, it is not matters of the heart that is confusing; it is actually matters in the mind that confuses us. Our heart always knows what it wants, to love with abandonment and or to truly be happy. If it was up to our hearts, these intentions would be…

Not a stroke of bad luck after all...!! There are many times in life when what seems to be a case of severe adversity in actual point of fact has that proverbial silver lining! Although just one of many such real-life stories Urban Sundvall HypnoAnalyst & Psychotherapist thought you might like it.

It started many years ago when I was working as a chef. Much as I loved cooking, the enormous industry stress factor had always been a problem for me. Over the years my inability to cope with stress was getting continuously worse. Eventually, to the point where one…

The Hypnotic Trinity

There is an old superstition that bad things happen in threes, and also that ‘ three is the charm ‘. This sentiment is often regarded as an old wives tale, but for many people, that other old adage, ‘ the proof is in the pudding ‘ actually bears it out.
Hypnotists in both the stage and therapeutic professions have always known the power of a suggestion given three times, and that in a clinical situation, most people need at least three sessions to effect permanent change. There is even a name for it -- the Hypnotic Trinity.

Now science has…

Will I have to Act Like a Chicken?

  • March 11, 2008 10:48am
  • Discussion categories: Hypnotherapy

One of the first things that spring to mind when the subject of Hypnosis comes up is the image of people doing silly things, like acting like a chicken, or eating an onion thinking that it’s an apple. Hypnosis in a therapeutic context is nothing like Stage Hypnosis, in which people’s basic commonsense appears to be overcome enough to allow silly behaviour. You must remember, however, that those people volunteered to be Hypnotised on stage knowing full well the sort of antics they would be up for, and also that the Stage Hypnotist is a trained specialist who can easily…

The Subconscious Hero

Sigmund Freud first came up with the theory of a conscious and a subconscious mind, but these days the subconscious is on a much firmer scientific footing. Where Freud’s ideas were rather simplistic, we now know that the subconscious is not an unthinking autopilot that needs to be subjugated by rationality, but a purposeful, active and independent guide to behaviour.

In situations where people have to make difficult choices based on large amounts of hard-to-assess information, psychologist Ap Dijksterhuis at the University of Amsterdam has found that they are happier with their decision when acting on gut instinct than…

Hypnosis and NLP

What is NLP?
NLP is a leading-edge approach to personal change and the pursuit of excellence. Developed in the 60's and 70's, it is now acknowledged as being one of the most direct, gentle and non-invasive methods for making rapid, effective, lasting change.

Can every-one be hypnotized ?
Every-one,given the right conditions, is capable of entering hypnosis. The hypnotic experience may differ from person to person, but only a relatively light level of hypnosis is required to make profound changes in your life.

Will I lose all control?
No one can make you go into hypnosis. The beautiful thing about the…

Is Stress Making You Fat?

Much has been said about the effects that stress has on the human body. We are all aware of the obvious results, such as depression, hyper-anxiety, sleeplessness, road rage etc, and the often self destructive ways of managing stress, like drinking a little too much, or self medicating with food, comfort food being the preferred soporific for our ragged nerves. Few people realise that adrenal burnout can be the result of prolonged low-grade stress. Dramatic life-upheavals tend to gain more sympathy and attention than the misery of a hated job, a difficult family situation, or some other long term but…

Stage Hypnosis Vs Hypnotherapy

  • February 01, 2008 5:25pm
  • Discussion categories: Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis in a therapeutic context bears no relationship at all to the tomfoolery and mental disrespect often seen in movies or on the stage. People who volunteer for such shows are only interested in having some fun, and know in advance the sort of antics they will be involved in. If the stage hypnotist were to tell them to do something against their morals or would put them in danger they would simply be shocked out of trance, if they were in fact hypnotised, and would refuse to comply.
Unfortunately, in such situations, the stage hypnotist does not always…

Hypnosis goes straight to the heart of the problem

  • February 01, 2008 2:49pm
  • Discussion categories: Hypnotherapy

This story started when the client, who I'll call 'Will', came to see me about a problem with his heart.

Will's history
Will's heartbeat fluctuated from 30 beats per minute to 200 beats per minute. (A normal range is somewhere between 70-80 beats per minute.) His doctors had strongly advised him that he should have both a cardiac restrictor and a pacemaker inserted into his chest to control his arrhythmia because sometimes only the top half of his heart did the work, while at other times only the bottom part of his heart worked. However Will was a bit reluctant…
