Natural calamities apart, most of today's suffering is man-made. Lachhman Nankany presents a homoeopath's point of view.

OUR HEALTH STANDARDS:

There is much suffering in the world today. The standard of living is rising everywhere, but the standard of health is at its lowest! Pay a casual visit to any hospital anywhere in the world and you will see what man's standards have come to.

The poor suffer from diseases of deprivation. The rich, on the other hand, suffer from diseases of plenty or excess. These include diabetes, rheumatism and arthritis, high blood pressure, heart trouble (cholesterol), kidney…

What is integrative Medicine?

Integrative or Integrated Medicine is a system of medicine is that incorporates a combinations of traditional knowledge, wisdom, alternative methods, allopathic medicine, modern science and technology to enable us to understand patients and their illnesses comprehensively and holistically. The aim of this system and rationale is to aid the clinician to obtain a better overall understanding of patient’s health status in order to provide the best possible Integrative treatment and care.
Unfortunately this system can be difficult to implement let alone master, as traditional methods are not always supported by allopathic medical practitioners and /or modern science. This is often…

Uses for Students

Most employers of Natural Therapists I’ve spoken to have a horror story. A tale of a recent graduate who has applied to work, and presented so poorly, that it seems they have had no training at all. “They didn’t know where the gluteus maximus was. Even my 4 year old knows where his own butt is!”

But weren’t we all students at one stage? Doesn’t everyone have to start somewhere? Of course, but for todays student of Natural Therapies, there are not a whole lot of options. Sure, there are practical clinic hours to every qualification these days, but even…

The Zeitgeist

Why is it that some people happily go for flu shots, surgery and prescription pills, but balk at visiting a CAM practitioner. No, not balk, I need a stronger word. I think it is “distaste”. Where does the distaste some people show for CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) come from? We certainly haven’t killed anyone, gotten anyone hooked on prescriptions, or botched surgery. None of the practitioners I know are pushy or rude, we have minimal pressure put on us by Big Pharma to unethically make sales, and anyone who knows the average wages of CAM practitioners know that we’re…

Natural Therapies - An Immature Industry

Natural Therapy Practices have been around for a long time, yet the industry as a whole is extremely immature. We have virtually no political clout, and the unsung heroes (usually individuals or not for profit peak bodies) have had to work ridiculously hard to even get this far. We have close to zero dollars in research funding, and precious few incentive schemes in place to spark future research funding. To put this comment in perspective, we are currently celebrating an allocation of $5 million over 3 years towards CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) research. An achievement, certainly, but also a…
