There is more to weight loss than just diet and exercise. Factors like allergies, hormones, stress, and polycystic ovaries can reduce the efficiency of your metabolism and prevent or slow down weight loss.

Are food allergies making you gain weight?
Bloating, fatigue, itchy skin and sinus problems are just some of the unpleasant symptoms of food allergies. But did you know allergies might also be slowing down your metabolism, causing weight gain and even preventing fat loss?

Is Stress Making You Fat?

Much has been said about the effects that stress has on the human body. We are all aware of the obvious results, such as depression, hyper-anxiety, sleeplessness, road rage etc, and the often self destructive ways of managing stress, like drinking a little too much, or self medicating with food, comfort food being the preferred soporific for our ragged nerves. Few people realise that adrenal burnout can be the result of prolonged low-grade stress. Dramatic life-upheavals tend to gain more sympathy and attention than the misery of a hated job, a difficult family situation, or some other long term but…

Walking - the forgotten exercise

More than any other time in the year, throughout Spring, Australian TV is filled with advertisements for weight loss shakes, ab-machines and diet programs. And while many Australians guzzle diet drinks and slog it out on a treadmill to get into shape for Summer, one Australian weight loss coach says it’s all “goobeldegook”. How to lose weight and keep it off

Many people in Australia are finding that as they are becoming older, their weight is increasing. As a naturopath who specializes in weight loss, I see people on a regular basis, who would like to lose weight. Sometimes people feel that they began to gain weight with a change in lifestyle, job, or with the onset of an illness. For many it seems just a hard fact of life that their body is changing and they are unhappy about it. However most people seem unable to bring about any significant lasting change to their weight gain.

1. Inflammation: Aches and pains, poorly digested food (e.g. diarrhea), infections etc can be a sign of inflammation which increases cortisol levels in the body. This can increase the likelihood of fat storage. It is important to address underlying inflammation for weight loss.

2. Stress: this can increase fat storage by increasing adrenaline and cortisol. Stress management techniques such as meditation, yoga or Tai Chi can be useful, learning to say “No” effectively and looking after yourself (enough sleep, water, exercise, etc) are good long term strategies to stay healthy.

3. Toxins: PCB and pesticides in food, heavy metals (from…

Cleansing & Detox outweighs Normal Dieting programs

Cleanse vs. Diet

Cleansing and Detox outweighs Normal Dieting programs.

One way the liver deals with toxins and chemicals in your body is to encase them in fat, to protect you. By detoxifying or “cleansing” regularly you can have the side-benefit of losing excess fat and fluid and, if you’re exercising, increase your lean muscle mass

Dieting (starving) can cause increased fat long-term. Body encase toxic impurities with fat and fluid to protect cells from damage. Smaller body means increased percentage of impurities & less muscle to burn glucose. Hence…REBOUND with higher % of fat with less muscle, more…
