Amnesia

Amnesia is a term used to describe memory loss. There are several different types of amnesia including anterograde (having trouble remembering events after a head injury), retrograde amnesia (having trouble remembering events before a head injury), Korsakoff’s psychosis (brought on by alcohol abuse), traumatic amnesia (occurs due to head injury), childhood amnesia (trouble remembering early childhood events), and hysterical amnesia (which usually happens after psychological trauma). Depending on the type of amnesia, treatment may include psychotherapy, cognitive rehabilitation, hypnosis and psychiatric treatment.
