Oils Aint Always Just Oils
Have you ever wondered why a product like Frankincense can range in price from under $50 to over $100 ? Some oil suppliers "extend" their oil products with synthetic substances to make their dollars stretch further. While that may not seem like much of a problem, if you are diffusing them in an oil burner, can you be thoroughly sure that the synthetic products aren't reacting negatively with the heat ? If you are more likely to be using the oils for health support - do you really need more synthetic chemical additives/extenders in your system ?
Even The Real Deals Need Analysis
Essential Oils are not simple substances. Even though an Essential Oil is labeled as "Basil" and have the botanical name Ocimum Basilicum, it can have widely different therapeutic actions depending on its chemistry. Eg. Basil high in linalool or fenchol has antiseptic properties. However, Basil high in methyl chavicol is more anti-inflammatory than antiseptic. Further to that, Basil high in eugenol has both properties.
Many factors determine the purity of an Essential Oil. One factor that determines purity is its natural chemical constituents. These constituents can be affected by many things including but not limited to; the part of the plant which the oil was extracted from, soil conditions, climate, harvesting, distillation procedures etc. Even factors like chemical reactivity with aluminum or copper and distillation temperature can affect purity. This is why the cultivation, distillation and production of the oils is so important to the company.
Adulteration is such a major concern that every batch of Essential Oil that comes into Young Living must be tested at AFNOR (Association French Normalization Organization Regulation) certified laboratories, by chemists licensed to test therapeutic grade Essential Oils. Batches that do not meet the standards are rejected.
