What are essential oils and how do I use them?
Essential oils are the life blood of the plant kingdom and carry within them a vital force that is legendary for healing, anointing, and inspiring. They are mentioned throughout the Bible and many other ancient sacred texts.
Most essential oils are microbial to some extent. One of their main functions in their mother plant is to heal all wounds and defeat invasion. They are also the world's most powerful anti-oxidants. Scientists at tufts University have developed a scale for the US Department of Agriculture called the ORAC, Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity. The higher the score the more capable any food or topical substance is of destroying free radicals.
Among food varieties, Blueberries have one of the highest ORAC values at 2,400. The range with essential oils, however, is from 1,655 for Sandalwood to 10,786 for Clove. This measurement places essential oil at the top of plant life's vital energy.
Essential oils are composed of tiny molecules, all less than 500 atomic units (Amu) in molecular weight. By comparison, other fatty oils weigh more than 1000 Amu. Because of this infinitesimal size, essential oils can pass through all the tissues of the body and into every cell within minutes of contact. Only molecules less than about 800 Amu can cross the blood-brain barrier. Therefore, only essential oil can cross the blood-brain barrier.
On the human body, essential oils are transdermal and can reach every part of your body within three to five minutes. Therefore, one must be very cautions with excess quantity. Less is more. One drop contains approximately 40 million-trillion molecules, which is enough to cover every cell in our bodies with 40,000 molecules. Essential oil can pass through every cell wall, and it only takes one molecule of the right kind to open a receptor and communicate with a strand of DNA. Therefore even inhaling a small amount can have a profound effect on one's body, brain, and emotions.
The soles of your feet are the ideal place for applying essential oils because they have a more tolerant protected surface and yet the structure of the foot is a map of the whole body. Most of the anointing in the Bible was on the feet, and the washing of feet was usually a preface to that sacred gifting.
In addition, essential oils are volatile and therefore release their molecules into the atmosphere. When you breathe oil molecules they go straight to the brain in a central part called the amygdala. This is the central headquarters of the limbic system, which manages your storage and filing system for all emotional experiences. That part of the brain does not understand words or even thoughts formed with words. Its most direct response is to smell. Therefore, essential oils provide a powerful means to contact the non-verbal portion of our brains that stores our feelings and emotions.
Room diffusers can be used for this aromatic distribution. Sometimes I place a drop on my jewelry. I also have little crystals that I set by my desk or bed, each with its own special fragrance.
Remember that a little goes a long way. Sometimes too many oil molecules can overload the body's receptor sites, causing them to freeze up without responding at all. Also, even the purest of oils can sometimes cause sensitivity when applied directly to the skin, especially in large amounts. Therefore I ask everyone to test your tolerance and not to exceed that level.
Putting a little oil in your lotions or carrier oils can be a good way of introducing essential oil to your body. Your body's acceptance and tolerance will grow as it resolves "issues" that may have caused initial sensitivity. If there is any sensitivity at all, begin with a room diffuser until your body, mind and emotions have assimilated the impact of this fragrance.
Just as there are different grades of diamonds (and true investment grades are not available in jewelry stores) so, too, there are many grades of essential oils. These qualities are determined by a number of factors. Among these factors are such things as the quality of the source plant (whether it was commercially grown or wild harvested) and the manner of distilling …whether chemicals were used in distilling or whether the oils were cold pressed and pure.

One of the most important healing modalities, however, is that essential oil can lift your bodily frequencies to levels where disease and unhappiness cannot exist. In conjunction with prayer and meditation it is unbeatable for this effect.
