About EastWest College
Shiatsu Australia Educational Services Pty Ltd, trading as EastWest College (formerly Shiatsu Australia) is the oldest and most recognised shiatsu and massage college in Australia and one of the oldest shiatsu colleges outside of Japan. The college has been training professional therapists since 1978 and is recognised as providing students with the highest level of training in Australia.
The College attracts people from all over the world because of its emphasis on integrating Oriental and Western medicine. This, together with the high standard of its teaching staff and excellent teacher-student ratio has contributed to its status as one of the leading shiatsu and massage training institutions in the Southern Hemisphere.
The college prides itself on employing only the most experienced and dedicated teachers and offers a wide range of shiatsu and massage courses. All classes are related to actual clinical practice and each course provides students with the language and skills to easily bridge Oriental and Western perspectives and apply these when working as a professional therapist.
Shiatsu Australia Educational Services trading as EastWest College is a Recognised Training Organisation with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority, and the Certificate IV and Diploma level courses are registered with Centrelink which enables eligible students to apply for Austudy and Youth Allowance. The College is also a Registered Provider of courses for International Students.
Shiatsu Australia Educational Services Pty Ltd trading as EastWest College is a registered course provider with CRICOS (Provider number 02394E) and offers four qualifications for International Students. Enrolments are taken four times a year in February, April, July and October.

Massage
Massage has been part of healthcare since humans first walked the earth. All cultures have developed methods of Massage therapy from ancient Greece and Rome to India and China.
The courses offered by EastWest College cover the different styles of Massage including Relaxation, Therapeutic, Sports, Remedial, Oriental and Lymphatic.
A particular focus at the professional level is the integration of Western Remedial and Oriental Massage. This allows graduates to explore the fascinating world of Oriental medicine in combination with the depth of knowledge and practicality of Remedial, Sports and Therapeutic Massage
The courses offered are part of the Health Training Package for Massage and meet the new national standards for Massage practitioners.
You can choose from a short course in Relaxation Massage or the professional level Certificate IV in Massage and Diploma of Remedial Massage. Both professional qualifications are Nationally Recognised.
The Diploma of Remedial Massage and Diploma of Shiatsu & Oriental Therapies can be studied full time in two years or part time in four years. The Dual Qualification saves time (one year) and money (approximately $7000) due to the common units in each qualification leading to greater practitioner recognition and a more successful natural health practice.

Shiatsu
Shiatsu literally translates as ‘finger pressure’ and is a Japanese therapy which has its origins in Oriental medical theory and traditional Japanese massage techniques. The Japanese adopted Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practices and enhanced its methods to develop the unique form of treatment now known as Shiatsu.
Shiatsu therapists treat the whole body as well as specific problem areas by also addressing both emotional and physical wellbeing. The aim is to treat the body by balancing the flow of Ki (life energy), applying pressure to obstructed or weak areas. This relieves symptoms and resolves conditions, improving the patients strength and vitality.
From a Western perspective Shiatsu can be explained through its effect on the nervous system. Shiatsu activates the healing, conserving functions of the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system to calm the body’s overactive fight or flight responses (stress), giving space and time for the healing process to take over.
Shiatsu is recognised as being suitable for treatment of most common conditions including musculo-skeletal, menstrual, digestive and immune system disorders as well as being one of the most effective therapies for stress management and relaxation.
