Working as a Counsellor
When I first started to think about how I would describe my work as a counsellor, it occurred to me that the way I work is intimately connected to my personal journey towards becoming conscious. Being a counsellor involves so much more than pulling theory out of the air. It’s about bringing all my personhood and experiences to the therapeutic encounter. I work in an analytical way, based on the understanding that the truth of the unconscious cannot be denied. My own journey is confirmation of this. Therapy is about speaking and recognizing the truth, and making it possible to enjoy the peace that comes with truth. Counselling and psychotherapy helps one acquire new insights to help resolve ones problems naturally and develop a stronger sense of self-worth and capability.
Working as a Clinical Hypnotherapist
Hypnotherapy is the use of the state of hypnosis as a therapeutic tool. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness and is a natural trance state, like when one daydreams, driving somewhere and not realising how one got there, being injured while playing a sport and not feeling the pain, and feeling mesmerised or captivated when listening to someone or music. In trance, the critical faculty of the conscious mind is bypassed allowing the subconscious mind to become more susceptible to specific, positive suggestions to help solve a large range of problems, such as unwanted behaviour and habits, clearing emotional blockages, as well as gaining greater self awareness and sense of well being.
Hypnotherapy is also effective when it is combined with other interventions, such as counselling and psychotherapy to enhance the healing process.
