Answers to some frequently asked questions
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is an energetic science. It is a client-centred, holistic complementary medicine that helps you gain a greater understanding of what causes you stress, why you act or react the way you do, and what you need to learn or understand to ‘defuse’ that stress.
Stress can lead to illness and disease. Kinesiology can help prevent and reverse the manifestation of emotional stresses into physical ailments, and vice versa.
Our body is comprised of many systems that need to flow. You may be aware of some of the physical ones such as our blood, lymph, bowels and bladder. If these systems don’t flow properly there are serious ramifications for our health. Likewise there are energetic flows in our body, namely our chakras and meridians. These energetic systems also need to flow effectively to maintain optimal health.
As a Kinesiologist I aim to determine where there is a block in your flow, why this block has developed, what you need to learn or understand to clear this block and prevent it happening again, and what, as a Kinesiology practitioner, I can do to help you clear that block.
A session with a practitioner is called a ‘balance’, because the aim of the session is to put your physical and energetic systems back in balance.

Who benefits from Kinesiology?
Who do I see? What symptoms do they present with? What are the results?
Most clients come to me with emotionally based concerns, but many of these also have physical symptoms which are usually linked to their emotional issue/s. Many of my clients present with energetic blockages in their endocrine (or hormonal) systems, their chakras and their meridians.
For most people, the stresses in their lives that lead to physical manifestations start off as blockages in their energetic systems; therefore I aim to work on the root cause of the problem which in turn addresses the symptoms.
The kind of emotional issues people use Kinesiology to help them work on include;
feeling stuck around an issue,
addressing a traumatic time or traumatic experience,
relationship and/or sexuality concerns,
direction in life and/or career change questions,
poor sleep patterns,
connection with spirituality,
mental health concerns, and
self esteem challenges.
Many people come to me not entirely sure of what it is they want to work on, but simply knowing they have a long list of seemingly unrelated and non-specific concerns, and that something ‘just isn’t right’.
Other concerns Kinesiology can address include;
skin disorders,
diet and gastrointestinal tract issues,
asthma,
weight management,
pain
learning problems,
muscular and nervous disorders
nutritional deficiencies
lifestyle related conditions
What happens in a balance?
The answer to this is as varied as each person I see. A typical session will begin with a discussion to determine why you have come to see me and what you hope to achieve, both within the session and longer term. I will then ask you to remove their shoes (if you are comfortable doing so) and lie face up on a massage table, where most of the Kinesiology work will be done.
During the session I may use a number of aids to help me do this work. This could include acupressure, tuning forks, aurasoma, colour, light and sound. I also draw upon the emotional information from the elements in Traditional Chinese Medicine, being earth, metal, water, wood and fire. I may also use flower or other essences. Essences are homeopathic remedies in an alcohol base. Please inform me if you would prefer not to use these.
I talk with you throughout the session and inform you of what I am doing. I aim to give you as much information as possible so that you have your own revelations, as this produces a more profound result and deeper understanding of self. I will encourage you to interact and ask questions, as this is an integral step to taking ownership of your health.
How does Kinesiology differ from other modalities?
Kinesiology differs from other modalities in several significant ways. Firstly, Kinesiologists look at the relationships between your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual health and address each of these facets within the balance as required. I know of no other another modality that gives this relationship as much importance as does Kinesiology.
Secondly, Kinesiology is client focussed. In other words, the practitioner’s role is to facilitate the client doing his or her own healing. My aim is to help you become in tune with yourself so that all your states of health are in your hands.
Finally, the healing work done in each session is determined by the client. Kinesiology uses a system called muscle monitoring, which is based on muscles responding to stress in a certain and very subtle way that you may or may not be aware of during the session.
Kinesiologists use muscle monitoring to help determine not only what your particular stress is, in what physical or energetic system you are holding this stress, and why this stress has arisen, but also to determine what needs to be done to alleviate this stress. It is important to note that muscle monitoring is not a strength test – it is the body’s physical response to something you find stressful. This same system is used by many practitioners of other modalities to test food and environmental allergies, amongst other things.
What can you expect from a balance?
Within the first session most people experience relief or an improvement regarding their issue. However, as Kinesiology has a counselling aspect to it most people see improved results as time goes on and as trust builds with the practitioner.
Part of the healing process involves challenging, and possibly changing or undoing, a whole host of behaviours, attitudes and reactions to a situation as part of your ‘coping mechanisms’. This is a little bit like taking off one bandaid at a time from a sore that has been buried under many bandaids, each an attempt to heal the sore. Along the way it is not uncommon for people to experience physical or emotional states they have had at some stage in their past.
It is not uncommon, but also not usual, for some symptoms to flare up again or get worse before they get better. This can happen because we start to deal with the cause of the problem as we take off the successive bandaids. This is a normal part of the healing process and should be discussed with me if you have any concerns.
Most clients will feel lighter and less burdened after a balance, but some feel heavier and quite ‘spaced-out’ or even sleepy, similar to the way a massage can affect you. Either way, and especially until you know which way you are most likely to respond, I recommend you avoid doing too much after a balance.
How often will you need to have a balance?
That depends on a few things including your readiness and willingness to heal, how long you’ve had the issue or problem, what else you may have done to work on the issue, and last but not least your time.
In most counselling based modalities such as Kinesiology, it is common for the client to come more frequently at first, usually once a week or a fortnight, and then gradually reduce the number of visits to once a month or as needed. There are a couple of reasons for this approach. Firstly, when you start the ball rolling on addressing your health concerns, the results achieved by keeping that ball rolling are far greater for most people than if you saw a practitioner more times but less frequently. The second reason this approach proves more beneficial is because you are more likely to build trust and rapport with someone you see more frequently.
Most of my clients initially come once a week or once a fortnight for around 6 to 8 balances. Most people would then typically be able to drop this back to once a month while still making good progress.

Other important information
As an energetic science and a complementary therapy, Kinesiology does not attempt to take the place of medical intervention where this is necessary. I encourage you to inform your GP, or any specialists you might see, that you are also seeking assistance from a complementary therapist. Do not at any stage stop taking or make alterations to medication prescribed to you without first consulting the practitioner who prescribed it. Likewise do not ignore or postpone any medical procedures recommended by a qualified medical practitioner.
I look forward to meeting you. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me and I will happily assist you.
