NUTRITION!

“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”

Conventional medicine recognises diet as being a risk factor for illness and disease, such as poor diet as a risk of coronary heart disease.

Nutritional medicine also recognises food sensitivity (intolerance) as a common cause of conditions such as eczema and irritable bowel syndrome.

    HOW DOES IT WORK?


    ASSESSMENT:

    As we all have individual needs it is important to treat the cause and not the symptoms. Therefore a food diary is required to be filled in for the first consultation. When you make an appointment one will be sent to you. This is then the focus to see imbalances, like overeating or under eating of certain food groups.

    Things to think about, do you fit into any of these problem areas?

  • Always struggling with weight
  • Tired all the time
  • Digestive disorders [constipation,diarrhea,bloating,indigestion.]
  • Yeast infections [ candida]
  • Hormonal issues [PMS ,menopause]
  • Stress
  • Allergies/Food intolerances
  • Pain/Inflamation[arthritis]
  • Skin problems [acne,eczema]

    You may not get all the nutrients you require from your diet, either you don’t eat enough or your body can't absorb enough. Some people don’t get all the nutrients they need from their diet because they don’t eat a balanced diet or they have a greater nutrient requirement due to pregnancy, illness or high activity levels.

    Many people don’t eat fruit and vegetables on a daily basis and some choose to remove a whole food group from their diet (eg: meat or dairy) skipping meals, dieting and eating lots of ‘JUNK’ foods all contribute to poor nutrition. High intakes of fat and alcohol and certain medications can increase the body’s use of certain vitamins and minerals and as well some illnesses and medications prevent them from being absorbed.

    Other relevant information is taken like lifestyle, medical and family history, details about different body systems to complete the picture.



    TREATMENT:

    With you, a plan is worked out to make simple changes to your eating and cooking habits that will significantly boost your nutrient intake and improve your health. The aim of diet is to decrease or remove nutrients or foods that are the cause of the illness or disorders and/or to increase the nutrients that are insufficient.

    If nutritional supplements are prescribed the aim is to enhance changes achieved through diet.



    ALLERGY TESTING/TREATMENT

    You may have a food allergy which involves an over-reaction of your immune system.

    OR

    A food intolerance which is a negative reaction that does not involve the immune system. Identify your problem foods with a non invasive Bio-Dermal screening allergy test, using a computerised system.
