My desire is to provide a safe and supportive space and time for you to do your work. You can tell me as much or as little of your story as you feel comfortable. You will not be analysed or judged or told what to think. You will be listened to, accepted for where you are at the moment, acknowledged as a fully alive human being, and supported in meeting your challenges and growing through and beyond them.

We can work with any or all of these modalities, depending on what works best for you at any particular time.

Making the decision to have some form of counselling can be challenging and confronting. I encourage you to be brave and take that first step as the benefits will far outweigh the initial fear you may feel. The benefits include ~

HOLISTIC COUNSELLING

As a Holistic Counsellor, I look at the whole person that you are, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually, and not just the part of you that you are wanting to change or fix.

I work with a range of approaches, including ~

Sandplay

Drawing

Writing

Focussing

Sandplay

This is using symbols that represent the world, from symbols of people, animals, houses, transport, etc etc., and a sandtray.

You are invited to spend some time just getting used to the feel of the sand and responding to what your hands want to do in the sand. This may be all you wish to do, or you may choose to select some symbols and place them in the tray to construct a scene, event or feeling. Some people do this quickly, others slowly, some use many symbols and others only a few. There is no right or wrong way to do sandplay.

Sandplay is a lovely process which allows you to see and understand your world, both consciously and unconsciously, more clearly, and to make changes you would like in your life.

Drawing

This is using crayons, marker pens, pencils etc and paper, and simply drawing whatever you feel moved to draw.

It does not require any artistic ability and you do not have to produce a beautiful piece of art.It is more the expression of something emerging from your deeper self that needs and wants to come out.

It may be a very simple drawing where the meaning is quite evident to you, or it may be something more mysterious where the meaning is not immediately obvious, but will emerge when the time is right for you.

Your drawings are not analysed or judged, they are simply there for you to receive their wisdom. On completion of your drawing, you are free to keep it as a reminder of your work, place it in a significant position or alternatively you may wish to destroy it if this is a more symbolic and effective way of dealing with the content.

Writing

Writing un-self-consciously can be a way of getting in touch with deeper feelings and thoughts.

This type of writing can be useful in assisting you to see a difficult or confusing situation from different perspectives. For example you may like to write with one hand how you feel about the situation, and write with your other hand from the point of view of another person involved in the same situation.

Writing can also be a helpful way of gaining more insight from dreams. You may wish to write a letter to someone and express what you were never able to express. This does not mean the letter needs to be sent, however it is enabling the expression of what may need to be said.

Writing, or keeping a journal, is also a useful and helpful thing to do to between your counselling sessions.

Focussing

Focussing is a very gentle meditative approach to assisting you to get in touch with how your body is feeling at any particular time.

It is identifying those butterflies in your stomach, tightness in your chest, pain in your back, etc., and instead of trying to push the feeling away, Focussing gives you the opportunity to sit with those feelings and sensations and discover what they may truly be about, and the wisdom within them.

Focussing allows you the opportunity to come close to particular feelings, alternatively you may wish to maintain a distance if that feels safer and more what you need to do.


KINESIOLOGY

Everything that has ever happened in your life, your body was present at the time. Therefore your body holds enormous amounts of knowledge and wisdom. It has a memory that goes beyond your conscious memory and it has a wisdom of how it needs to be healed.

Kinesiology is a natural, holistic modality which acknowledges and works with your body’s own innate healing ability. Kinesiology uses gentle muscle monitoring to communicate with your body, to identify what is blocking you from moving forward in your life the way you want to.

Within the various forms of kinesiology that I use, include ~

AFT (Attractor Field Technique)

AFT is a powerful technique which identifies what we might be attracting into our lives through our deep seated thoughts and beliefs. We usually are not aware of these as they were set up (by us) when we were quite young and needed specific beliefs and behaviours in order to survive.

As we grow, these beliefs may no longer suit us, but they have become an entrenched way of operating in the world.

AFT helps us identify these unhelpful beliefs and allows us to gently and lovingly release them and move forward in our lives.

RESET. (Rafferty Energy System Eeasing Temporomandibular joint)

The Temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, is located near the ear and connects the Mandible or jaw bone to the Temporal bones in the scull. This joint can often become tight and tense, resulting in pain and discomfort not only in the face, neck, shoulder areas, but right throughout the body.

RESET is a very gentle and nurturing technique that brings about a realignment of the TMJ. RESET has had very effective results in a wide range of ailments and discomforts including, teeth grinding, painful jaw and facial muscles, sleeplessness, general pain and discomfort throughout the body. RESET can stimulate dreams, imagination, assist in learning, assist in deep and rejuvenating relaxation and sleep.

REIKI

Reiki approximately translates to ‘Life force energy’, Re means God or life force and Ki means energy.

Reiki is a very gentle, hands on (or slightly above the body) way of connecting with the life force, universal energy, that flows through us all and keeps us alive. This energy is unseen, subtle and can have a strong impact on how we feel physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. If our life force is low, we may be more likely to become stressed or ill, or simply not as happy and healthy as we can be. When our life force is high, we are stronger, happier and healthier and probably enjoying our life more.

While Reiki does not in itself cure illnesses, it works with and supports the body’s own inherent healing ability and promotes well being. It can work very well in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic modalities and can assist in relieving side effects and promote recovery.
