NATURAL THERAPY PRACTICES IN THIS CENTRE

OSTEOPATHY

Felecity Marguin B.Sc. Osteo, M.Osteo, B.A. Communications

Osteopaths believe that the true alignment of the human skeleton, the body's manin framework, allowsus to moveand functioneasily and efficientlyand that misalignment contributes to discomfort, pain, common ailments and serious health problems.

The principle technique used by osteopathic practitioners is manupulation, and this may include passive motion techniques, soft tissue massage, muscle stretching and gentle manipulation of joints.

Naturopathy

Naturopathy can be described as a philosophy, art and science that assists the self recuperative processes of the body through physical, biochemical, herbal and other natural therapies. The core philosophy of the naturopath is to educate people to take responsibility for their health, and to help them understanding the fundamental laws of health when it comes to rest, exercise, nutrition, and mental attitude. The aim is to improve the vitality of a person by using natural therapies to remove wastes impeding the function of the organs and tissues.

Naturopathy can be complementary to traditional medicine, and is rarely detrimental to medical treatment when under advice from a trained naturopath, who will take into account the use of medication.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method of treatment involving the insertion of fine needles into various points on the body to treat a wide range of illnesses and disorders. There at lease 365 acupuncture points, located on 14 invisible channels know as meridians, which relate to specific organs. The philosophy is that health depends on the flow of vital energy, or qi, through these meridians, and that illness is related to a blockage of qi. It is the aim of the needling process to unblock the qi, which in turn allows for the proper function of the body.

Benefits may be felt immediately in certain cases, for others it may take several treatments before improvement is seen. Much depends on the illness, its duration and the person’s healing abilities.

Treatments are tailored to each individual and can help treat stress, digestion and respiratory problems, migraine, weak immunity, assists women’s problems, musco-skeletal pain, arthritis, and more.

PSYCHOTHERAPY & COUNSELLING

"By changing the way we look at things the things we look at change".

Carol Stuart & Rod McClure JP

Both Therapists are Graduates of *Hakomi Therapy. A body sensitive Integrated method of Psychotherapy and through the Hakomi Australia Association are governed for the maintenance of ethical practice. HAA is an associate members of PACFA.
Internationally acclaimed family therapist John Bradshaw professes Ron Kurtz's Hakomi's founder to be a master therapist and his teachings of Hakomi to be at the leading edge of modern day experiential psychotherapy.
In addition to being Hakomi trained therapists Carol and Rod are also registered Counselling Supervisors and Practicing Clinical Members of the Australian Counselling Association. They are mature, life experienced adult therapists with over 30 years Counselling experience.

Hakomi is based in the principle of ' natural organicity, working mindfully in the present moment'. This gentle, passive, non confrontational form of unifying therapy actually supports unconscious defenses, developed early by the psyche to hold and maintain personal protection for safety, totally beneath daily awareness.

These "involuntary minders" then go on into life performing their habitual, ritual duties of watching over the individual's safety.
Hidden beyond consciousness, these 'minders' in our personal 'underworld' established these brilliant yet devious schemes to divert attention in masks and disguise to protect the child from the earliest ages when we were too small and afraid to defend ourself.
In its organic brilliance to survive "the child' in us created and adopted its own indellible script to model our individual method of 'hide and seek'.
Now we are able to discover in therapy that these self engaged phantom minders, realising they having done a great job are actually happy to retire and let us go on now to do our own thing. We are "Big People" now. Like Gulliver in his fable no longer tied down by threads of the "Little People".

In a mindful state in therapy our psyche becomes aware (conscious of) and response able to identify these formerly unconscious emotional constrictions and personal fears once perceived as relational obstructions, barriers, disappointments, "let downs", held back, in conflict or some other mode or unwelcome sense of isolation constantly seeking from deep within for relational connection and till now, seemingly unable to make or hold permanent wholesome relationships.

These states of emotional discomfort, 'anxiety of the exiled' generally are brought to light and identified by loneliness or relationship problems compounded by the endless aching ungratified need, gives rise to heightened states of intense emotional disturbance, of panic, perceived abandonment or sever anxiety, rejection.

"Looseing it" .
No longer able to be contained, this hyper or hypo activated emotional arousal, spills out beyond 'normal' levels of control. Creating confusion in repeticious, cyclical waves, arguments, conflict, anger, abuse, separation, being alone, grief , shame, guilt and especially self isolation to depression.

Attempting to distract the psyche from the rising anxiety many tend to seek support from varied forms of compulsive or avoidance behaviour, the most readily identified being, smoking , eating and drinking, interestingly all "oral" behaviors as the psyche searches for its earliest memory of connection and nourishment.

Sadly avoidance behaviour unconsciously attempts to side step the real issue which increases in intensity and needs even more of the same, more drinking alchol, more food , more chocolate, more sex, more drugs as the primary needs are never gratified, so alcoholism, gambling, sexual addiction, bingeing and other extremes of behaviour become totally self destructive.

With extensive experienced in group, couples and individual therapy clients are professionally assuranced of non judgmental, compassionate, ethical practice, with complete consideration and total Confidentiality.

"By changing the way we look at things the things we look at change".
