*WHAT IS PRANA? a Jivamukti yoga workshop with Katie Manitsas
Friday 19th Sept 6pm–8pm, $20
Often translated as ‘life force’ prana is a Sanskrit word that describes the energy that sustains all living beings. Prana is like the flow of electricity, it can be harnessed (so it becomes useful) or wild like static (which really doesn’t serve our goal as yogis to find happiness and freedom). As practitioners of yoga we want to become a bright light so that we can reflect light to others and illuminate all that we come into contact with. By developing our ability to recogonise and harness the prana that is within us and around us at all times we can begin this magical journey. In this workshop we will use various practices to work with prana including dynamic flowing asana (the physical postures of yoga), pranayama (breathing practices) and chanting.
*Cultivating Mindfulness - A Yin Yoga workshop to refresh and regenerate the body’s store of prana (energy) with Sarah Owen
Friday 5th September 6-8pm $20
Join Sarah for a workshop that will be rejuvenating for the body’s level of prana (energy), whilst also developing the mind’s ability to stay in the present moment by cultivating mindfulness. Yin Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation are integral parts of ‘Insight Yoga’ - a method of yoga developed by Sarah Powers (USA), which interweaves the teachings of Yoga and Buddhism. Yin Yoga can help to create ‘space’ in our practice to observe our thoughts and emotional patterns. It targets the energy channels that run through the centre of the body, assisting the joint areas of the body and aiding in the development of a strong immune system. The workshop will include a Yin session to target the kidney and liver meridians, guided mindfulness meditation practice, as well as Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) to help ensure that you experience Savasana deeply - this deep relaxation and regeneration is the key to Yin Yoga.
