MASSAGE

Massage is a "hands on" ancient therapy that takes many forms through many cultures and countries. There are many variations of massage from many parts of the world including Thai, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Chinese, Shiatsu, Sports and many more forms, Although today we can find many forms, alll disciplines of masage can be categorizesd as massage because of the common method the massage therapist uses.

Any method of pressure on or friction against, or stroking, kneading, rubbing, tapping, pounding, vibrating or stimulating of the external soft parts of the body can be considered a form of massage. A massage therapist will use prodominately their hands or arms but do sometimes incorporate relxation chairs or appliances.

Massage is also beneficial in the treatment of depression and chronic fatigue syndrome, producing a calmer mind and an increased capacity for clearer thinking, which in turn gives a greater sense of being unified and in harmony with one self and surrounding.

Massage is one of the oldest forms of relaxation and healing therapies. In its various forms it can help relieve headaches, muscle pain, tension and stress. It is an effective means of helping you to relax and function more effectively.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

The aim of Therapeutic Massage are to encourage physical and mental relaxation, improve circulation and muscle tone, prevent soft tissue problems, assist the functioning of the digestive system and encourage the elimination of toxins from the body. Massage basically involves manipulating the skin, muscles and joints.

This is a soft tissue therapy and is an excellent form of assistance in treating injuries. Therapeutic Massage is a specific form of massage, as opposed to pure relaxation massage.

In most cases only one or two treatments are required for such conditions as:
Sciatica
Ankle Problems
Knee Problems
Frozen Shoulder
Migraine
Stress & Tension
Menstrual Irregularities
Asthma
Neck Restrictions
Back Pain
RSI

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Trigger Point Therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Some times massage and trigger point therapy are performed together.

Trigger Point Therapy is also called myofascial trigger point therapy. It was developed by Dr. Janet Travell in the United States in the 1940's.

Trigger points are areas of tenderness in a muscle. There are two basic types of trigger points: active and latent.

Active trigger points cause muscular pain and will refer pain and tenderness to another area of the body when pressure is applied. Latent trigger points only exhibit pain when compressed, they do not refer pain to other areas of the body. Latent trigger points are believed to be one of the causes of stiff joints and restricted range of motion of old age.

Trigger points may be associated with myofasical pain syndromes or fibromyalgia. Trigger points are very common. They are also referred to as muscle knots.

Trigger points differ from acupressure points. Acupressure points are concentration of energy or blockages of the body's energy pathways. Trigger points are physical phenomena that can be felt by touch.

The pain caused by trigger points may be the biggest cause of disability and loss of time in the workplace.

Trigger points have several causes. Some common causes of trigger points are: birth trauma, an injury sustained in a fall or accident, poor posture , or over exertion.

The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibiity and co-ordination are improved.

SUPERFICIAL LYMPH DRAINAGE MASSAGE

assists the lymphatic fluids flow through the body, helping to eliminate toxins and excess fluids, as well as providing a relaxing massage. This improves your overall health and can reduce swelling, break down old scar tissues and provide pain free post operative massage. The effects are very relaxing as well as re-energising.

CUPPING

Cupping has been practiced for thousands of years for the teatment of disease and pain. It is a form of acupuncture that focuses on the movement of blood, energy called Qi and body fluids, such as lymph - which circulates around the body's tissues.

Oriental medicine states pain is due to stagnation of these systems. This stagnation can be a result of injury or stress. Cupping is believed to stimulate flow of blood, lymph and Qi to the affected area. Its uses include relieving pain in the muscles, especially back pain from stiffness or injury, and clearing congesiton in the chest, which can occur with colds and flu.

AROMATHERAPY

Aromatherapy is a therapy with aroma . The term was actually coined by a French chemist, RM Gattefosse and is now almost a household word. Aromatherapy is really the art and science of using essental oils , although any aromatic substance can be used, to heal common ailments and complaints in a gentle and calming way.

Used as a healing technique for thousands of years by various cultures, aromatherapy aids in relaxation, improves circulation and helps the healing of wounds.

Aromatherapy pleasant smelling oils help relieve tension and improve a person's general health and well being. They can be used as part of a relaxing massage, in steam inhalations, in baths or in diffusers and vapourisers to release calming or invigorating smell into the atmosphere

Aromatherapy healing can complement many modalities of natural therapy and can assist in healing or improve our general well-being. Essential oils can be burnt in oil burners, dropped on furniture or rubbed directly onto the skin.

Some key ares of facilitated healing are:
. Anxiety or stress
. Frequent headaches or migranes
. Emotional trauma, grief or major life crisis
. High blood pressure or poor circulation

EAR CANDLING

Ear Candling was an ancient remedy used by the Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks and Hopi Indians of North America and is now widely used in many countries throughout the modern world. Each candle is still carefully made by hand from the traditional receipe. Locally administered heat stimulates the energy points and reflex zones.

Ear Candles are a clearing therapy and are used very successfully for many problems associated with the ears and the head area. The lymph system and metabolism can be influenced by this intensive, pleasant and completely painless method of operation. Ear candles are used to cleanse and harmonise the different energy fields of the individual (the aura) in preparation for the state of trance and drive out negative energies.

Ear Candling may obtain beneficial results in the following cases:
