Profile

You have the power to make changes, and I, the practitioner am here to guide you in accessing that power.........

Now with your indulgence allow me to briefly explain each modality......

ADVANCED REMEDIAL MASSAGE

The techniques used have been adapted and modified from my days as a trainer/masseur with Rugby League teams - probably even further as a professional First Aider with the Port of Melbourne, Emergency Service. What is achieved is deep tissue work without the feeling of gouging out the muscles or making it so painful that you can't tolerate it. This incorporates a number of therapies including origin and insertion, cross fibre friction, trigger point therapy and acupressure. The objective is to maximise the benefits and minimise the number of visits you require.

Continually "fixing up", symptoms is not good enough for my patients because it is not good enough for me. My modus operandi is to gain positive results for my patient from the way I work.

HYPNOSIS

The vast majority of people are intrigued with the idea of hypnosis. Admittedly, some have reservations about it because of stage hypnosis and the ensuing antics in the name of entertainment. For the most part though, people, ordinary people do value the benefits of hypnosis to make positive changes to their lives.

HYPNOTHERAPY

It might surprise you to know that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis! Yes, you did read correctly, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The therapist is there to guide you to achieve this profoundly relaxed state of super-concentration and get you past hiccups that have occurred....

This means by-passing your critical mind to enable you to 'dig out' old hurts, repressions, memories or anything else in your sub-conscious that is negatively influencing your life.

We all have the answers to our own issues but somewhere along the line, conditioning got in the way and stopped us from getting those answers. Yes we jump to the negative first, get stuck there then have a hard time getting past it, but this is a normal human strait.

Judgement of a person or their situation is 'off limits' in hypnotherapy. The only judgement to be made is really an assessment of what is the best course of action to take in helping you.

HOW DOES HYPNOTHERAPY HELP YOU?

It allows you to be super-relaxed and super-focussed; by-passing your critical mind as stated before and allowing direct access to your unconscious. Between us we can then begin to resolve issues because there is no inteference.

We can be very objective about other people's issues but for the most part only subjective about our own. In this respect hypnosis is invaluable because it also by-passes subjectivity. It's amazing how the critical mind inserts doubts about your own positive thoughts.

Issues like repressions, old hurts or memories that are hidden can be brought to the surface with hypnosis. These are the likely causes of anger, smoking, weight, lack of motivation, low self-esteem and depression or is it repression issues? Each is a symptom and has a cause; the therapist's job is to guide you to finding it then correct/change or even challenge it.

Issues from the past can never be eradicated; they are there for all time. Now you have doubts again, haven't you? What's the use of hypnosis if issues are still going to be there? The answer? It is dealt with by bringing the issue and the 'trigger' to the surface and addressing it. By addressing it fully it can't negatively influence you any more. In other words you learn to respond, which is positive, instead of reacting, which is negative.

REGRESSION

You can be regressed in time to an incident in adult life, childhood, the womb, a past life or a life between lives, where good, bad or indifferent repressions, old hurts or memories are recalled.

NOTE

I do not waste time trying to convince sceptics or dis-believers about Past Life or Life between Life Regression. Clients who chose to pursue this road were able to resolve their issues and move on. My interst is in helping you live a fuller, richer life by assisting you to resolve your issues and this is just another tool to use in that process.

PROGRESSION

Just as you can regressed backwards in time you can also be progressed forward in time.

SCRIPTS

I have the inherent belief that everyone is entiltled to have their consultation constructed to meet their needs. For this reason I do not use prepared scripts.

BUTEYKO (pronounced BOO-TAE-KO) BREATHING TECHNIQUE

INTENTION OF BUTEYKO BREATHING

For some people Buteyko Breathing is enough for them to keep their condition under control. For others it is safe to use in conjunction with conventional medicine. Either way it brings about greater control and quality of life for asthma and sufferers of other respiratory problems. .

Buteyko Breathing is a COMPLIMENTARY therapy, not 'New Age' or 'Alternative' quackery as some people believe.

LUNG FUNCTION

Our lungs facilitate balancing the exchange of gases from outside and inside the organism. This is essential in maintaining our internal chemical functions. Sometimes though, things do go wrong and upset these processes, but they are surmountable.

All cells require oxygen (O2) to survive, and this is extracted from the air we breathe in from the atmosphere around us via the alveoli in our lungs.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2), (a gas we are told is a waste product), is produced at the cellular level by the process known as metabolism and is expelled via the alveoli into the lungs, then breathed out.

Oxygen(O2) and Carbon Dioxide(CO2) are both needed to sustain life. When an imbalance of one or the other occurs it becomes detrimental to the health of the organism and can even be life-threatening.

Where low Carbon Dioxide(CO2) occurs, as in hyperventilation; Oxygen(O2) is inhibited from being released off the red blood cells. This causes 'air hunger' or what you would recognise in asthma sufferers as an 'asthma attack'.

When over-supply of Carbon Dioxide(CO2) occurs, this causes the person to stop breathing regularly several times a minute, even up to a minute or more in some cases as occurs in sleep apnoea. These people also have a low respiratory rate when awake.

AIM OF BUTEYKO BREATHING

To correct what has gone awry with your breathing because of active/passive mouth breathing, leading either to hyperventilation or hypoventilation.

This is addressed through daily breathing exercises until they are incorporated into your lifestyle. These exercises counter the hyperventilation or hypoventilation, getting more oxygen to where it is required - your tissue cells.

Professor Buteyko, the creator of this therapy, concluded that hyperventilation or hypoventilation, is the major factor in respiratory dysfunctions and other conditions such as hypertension (High Blood Pressure) and Angina to name just a couple. He then went on to prove his theory to be correct.

In the clinical trial in Brisbane, one of the first in the western world, it was noted that all the participating asthmatics breathed on average three times the recommended volume of air per minute.

LACK OF OXYGEN TO THE TISSUE CELLS

When this happens it leads to the condition known as hypoxia. This occurs whether the cause is hyperventilation as in asthma and emphysema or hypoventilation as in sleep apnoea.

CONDITIONS THAT RESPOND TO BUTYKO BREATHING

Bronchitis, Emphysema (COPD), True Migraine Headaches, Snoring, Sleep Apnoea, Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), Angina, Ex-smokers who need tolearn to breathe again, Sports people who want to improve their endurance.

IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER THERAPIES

Panic/Anxiety attacks, Insomnia, Mental fatigue, coughing, stuttering.

COURSE

A course comprises 4 lessons, one week apart, conducted on a one to one or small group basis.

NOTE

The British guideline for the Management of asthma 2008, jointly produced by the Scottish Collegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) and the British Thoracic Society (BTS) is aimed at health professionals managing the care of people with asthma.

The new guideline encourages GPs, asthma nurses and consultants to recommend the complimentary Buteyko Breathing Therapy; stating that the technique may be considered to help patients to control the symptoms of asthma.

The guideline also upgrades research on Buteyko to a 'B' clasification - indicating that there are high quality clinical trials supporting the efficacy of the therapy in reducing both asthma symptoms and bronchodilator usage.
