Focus Pilates Studio is a new provider of holistic health improvement led by a certified and dedicated
Pilates instructor, Jillian Went.
As a professional dancer of 25 years, Jillian has travelled Australia and the world on her endeavours. The Pilates method was essential to her dancing career and fitness regime. Her passion for fitness and health has motivated her to become fully accredited under the Pilates Institute of U.K., Certificate III in Fitness and Australian Graduate School of Health and Sport Science (known as AOK). Through her five years of teaching the Pilates method, Jillian has gained a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of mind and body fitness. She firmly believes in helping other people to achieve their personal best by inspiring and motivating them to ‘CHALLENGE THEIR LIMITS’.
During 2008 Jillian pursued her certificate 4 accreditation through Polestar Pilates.Jillian is currently finalising her studies as a mentor for the Newcastle and Hunter Valley area.Along with her studies Jillian is a member of Pilates Alliance Australasia.
A focus on life
The Pilates Method is a non-impact fitness routine with an emphasis on gaining flexibility, strength, balance and co-ordination. Pronounced “pil-lah-tees” this unique method was developed in the early 1900’s by Joseph Pilates. During World War I Joseph Pilates redesigned hospital beds by adding springs and pulleys for the injured to exercise. This equipment became the Pilates equipment used today. Popular with the dance industry and Hollywood stars, Pilates is a safe and effective way to stretch, strengthen and tone your body without adding bulk and stressing the joints.

A patient originally came to me for chiropractor treatment with neck pain resulting in headaches. Symptoms subsided quickly however they would return within two weeks and she would need re-alignment. Muscular insufficiencies such as tight hip flexors, weak lower abdominal muscles and tight and weak hip extensors were noticed in her initial Pilates assessment by Jillian.These were addressed with her Pilates training and muscular balance and strength has been retained, stabilizing her spinal condition and therefore health.
