About Yoga
Anusara-inspired Hatha Yoga is enlivening and nurturing to health and well-being on all levels. It is elegant and uplifting in its philosophy and application. Grounded in the Tantric Tradition and teachings of Yoga, Anusara celebrates the world of spirit and matter as one. The practice is one of progressive revelation and insight allowing the student to embark upon their own journey of self-enquiry and transformation. The Universal Principles of Alignment, the foundation stone of the practice, beautifully merge inner intention with the outer form and action of the pose. With consistent and devoted practice an abundant inner Well of Yoga is revealed.

Monthly Fees
$68 = 4 x classes (1 x class per week)
$120 = 8 x classes (2 classes per week)
$156 = 12 x classes (3 x classes per week)
In months where there are 5 of a particular day per month payments are adjusted at the pro rata rate.

Enrolment Policy
Monthly enrolment supports progressive learning and opens the student to the benefits of regular practice. Each week there is a different focus creating a rounded experience over the month particularly when you attend the same class or classes each week.
The school has a missed class make up system but no part month payments, refunds or carrying funds over to the next month. If you cannot commit to all classes in the month the single class rate applies.
The easiest way to enrol is to make a payment by direct funds transfer into The Yoga Well account. BSB 062 212 Account numer 10415211. Please put your name in the 'funds description box' so your payment can be easily identified. Also, notify Julie by phone or email as to which class you are enrolling in. A receipt is emailed to you to confirm your enrolment once payment has been received.
About Anusara® Yoga
The style of Yoga taught at The Yoga Well is Anusara-inspired™ Hatha Yoga. Anusara (Ah-new-sah-ra) can be translated as “to follow your heart”, or “to flow from your essence”, or “to flow with Grace”. When we connect with our own heart we begin to live with greater fullness, radiance and happiness. We align ourselves with our deeper awareness and purpose.
This system of yoga was founded by John Friend in 1997 and has become one of the most popular and fastest growing yoga styles in the world. The uplifting philosophy of Anusara, which arises out of a Tantric viewpoint, is epitomized by a "celebration of the heart" that looks for the good in all people and all things. Consequently, students of all levels and abilities are honoured for their unique differences, limitations, and talents. It is a spiritually uplifting, therapeutically effective, physically transformative style of yoga.
Anusara is based on extremely sound alignment principles that support healing and allow the body and spirit to align with the power of Nature. These "Universal Principles of Alignment" keep the body safe, as well as open the body to greater strength and flexibility. They are especially therapeutic for most injuries, such as back or joint pain. Through yoga practice the body learns and absorbs the principles, which are taught through a system of loops and spirals. There is an elegant simplicity to the principles and they remain constant in every pose.
Although Anusara yoga practice can be strenuous, it is always fun, playful, and empowering. Teachers use metaphor and imagery to encourage student to allow the pose to arise from deep inside. This allows students to connect in a joyful and friendly way, to their bodies, mind, and emotions, and leads to freedom and transformation at every level.
Ongoing Classes - Mixed Level
This class is for students of all levels who have some previous Yoga experience; it is also for students who have completed an Introductory Course and is designed to build upon that learning. New students can join this class as practicing with an established group can progress your learning. Classes are by monthly enrolment at the beginning of each month. For single class attendance, please call the school to check available space as class sizes are limited.
Ongoing Classes - Introductory Level
For all students new to Yoga and for those wishing to start fresh, this class is ideal. Designed to provide a foundation in the essential Yoga postures, students are introduced to basic breath awareness, mindfulness and meditation. Structured as a monthly program, students can enrol at the beginning of each month which is recommended to promote regularity and consistency.
Introductory Courses
These courses provide a foundation in the practice and philosophy of Anusara Yoga. They introduce the Universal Principles of Alignment, breath awareness, and meditation. Suitable for all new to Yoga and those who wish to refresh and consolidate their learning. Please check the timetable for up-coming courses.
The Teacher
Julie Taylor began Yoga in 1995 at Reiby Hall Yoga Studio and has been teaching since 2001. She has studied with the Iyengar family in India and in the USA and Australia with John Friend the founder of Anusara Yoga. Inspired by all her teachers, Julie shares an enthusiasm and love of the practice encouraging each student to embrace their own journey. Her background as a Visual Artist and teacher infuses her Yoga teaching with creative vision; the practice of Yoga becomes an art in itself, celebrating the beauty and richness of life in all its diversity and expression. She is a member of the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia and holds a liscense to teach Anusara-inspired Hatha Yoga.
The Yoga Well
The Yoga Well is a new Yoga space in the area and is situated on the first floor of a newly rennovated building in Alexandria. This delightful space is light, peaceful and quiet, suitable for the practice of Yoga. It is a 15 minute walk from either Erskineville or Redfern stations, or take bus 308 from Central. There is ample free street parking nearby, and places to secure your bike.
