What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture literally means "needle piercing", the practice of inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific anatomic points in the body (called acupoints or acupuncture points) for therapeutic purposes. Along with the usual method of puncturing the skin with the fine needles, the practitioners of acupuncture also use heat, pressure, friction, suction, or impulses of electromagnetic energy to stimulate the points. The acupoints (acupuncture points) are stimulated to balance the movement of energy (qi) in the body to restore health.

In the past 40 years acupuncture has become a well - known, reasonably available treatment in developed and developing countries. Acupuncture is used to regulate or correct the flow of qi to restore health.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Historically, acupuncture points were believed to be holes that allow entry into channels. These holes provide us gateways to influence, redirect, increase, or decrease body's vital substance, qi, thus correcting many of the imbalances. Many studies and research were directed since to understand the mechanism of acupuncture.

Repetitive Strain Injury

Repetitive Strain Injury, or RSI, in short is common clinical conditions, among that affecting the soft tissues of the neck and shoulder region is particularly prevalent. The presentation includes neck muscle spasm, shoulder pain or stiffness and headache. Pain may radiate into the arm, with accompanying numbness, tingling or weakness.
The main cause of such RSI is long standing, poor posture during work, study, writing, using the computer, driving, etc. Occupations or activities involving repetitive twisting and lifting also predisposes to RSI. Subjected to prolonged, continuous strain the muscles and ligaments in the neck and shoulder may suffer tears and bleed, setting up local inflammation, resulting in pain and muscle guarding. These in turn cause reduction in joint mobility. This is the body’s defense reaction. However, if allowed to go on, adhesion, fibrosis tenderness and muscle spasm, creating a vicious circle of chronic pain and dysfunction.
Our treatment is aimed at breaking the cycle by targeting at pain and muscle tone reduction, improving circulation and settling inflammation, therefore enabling soft tissues to repair and rehabilitate. From many years of clinical experience, we have devised and effective therapy, using therapeutic massage, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to reduce spasm and alleviate pressure on nerves and blood vessels. The resulting improved metabolism can then promote the healing process of the injured tissues.

Depression & Stress Problems

Sufferers of the disease usually have several symptoms of both the mind and body. The most common symptoms are as follows:
Excitability increases. Its manifestations include getting excited easily, feeling grieved and shedding tears often, getting vexed easily, nervousness, sleeplessness, headaches and pain all over the body.
Becoming physically weaker. The suffer often feels weak, exhausted and somnolent. They can’t concentrate and memory deteriorates.
Malfunction of independent nerve response. Manifestations include nervousness, excessive perspiration and hot flushes to the face. Men can suffer impotence, seminal emission and premature ejaculation, and women can suffer menstrual disorders. Paranoia, The sufferer often feels worried, frightened, restless and suspicious.
One of the main causes of the disease is functional overstrain of the nervous system. Consequently, there is a high incidence of the disease among mental workers. Another common cause is the experience of depression bought on by family adversities, suffering setbacks or strain, marriage breakdown or work related stress. Sustained overstrain of the nervous system will eventually lead to neurasthenia.
Practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine have accumulated rich experience in treating the disease.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are able to regulate the nerves and the endocrine systems to make them function properly. As a result all the symptoms will disappear and fitness will be strengthened. The treatment has no side effects and produces instant results. The curative effect is sustainable and is highly appreciated by the patients.

Eczema

Eczema is a common skin disease. The cause of the disease is complicated. Mainly, it is either an acute or chronic inflammation, caused by allergy and various irritations inside or outside our body. Food, medicine, inflammation, physical and chemical irritation, and the change of climate, can all cause the disease.
During the chronic period, symptoms include damaged skin that is dull in color, infiltration thickening, pigmentation, blood scabs and scales.
In treatment, Western Medicine mainly uses anti-histamines and steroids, which can relieve the disease to some extent. However, it will reoccur very quickly.
The strong points of Traditional Chinese Medicine would first decide if it’s in the acute or chronic stage, and then use different herbal prescriptions, or herbal lotion for external use.
Sufferers of acute eczema are normally caused by the dampness the heat held up in the body. As a result, we will use herbal recipes to clear up heat or fever and resolve dampness. Chronic eczema is usually caused by deficiency of blood, as well as wind and dryness, combined as a pathogenic factor, so herbal recipes will be used to nourish blood to relieve dryness and expel pathogenic wind.
