SERVICES
CHIROPRACTIC
Chiropractic care is based on the premise that good health is reliant on a normally functioning nervous system. When the nerve pathways are uninterrupted, the organs and cells of the body function at their optimum. Conversely, when there is interference resulting in disturbance to the nerve supply, this predisposes cells to function incorrectly.

Although the spine offers protection and support for vital nerves it can cause interference to nerve flow if misalignment occurs. The relationship of the spine (structure) to the nervous system (function) is the focus of chiropractic care.

Chiropractors focus on removing interference to the nervous system using spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, use of prescriptive exercises, heat/cold packs, electrical stimulation (in some cases) and basic advice on diet and lifestyle.

As a patient, the Chiropractor will listen to the history of your symptoms, and any other relevant details such as previous hospital visits, trauma and any medications you are taking. The chiropractor will then conduct a thorough examination to determine if spinal misalignments are related to your health problem. As required, the chiropractor will write you an x-ray referral to gain more information.
An appropriate treatment plan will then be suggested to you.

Spinal adjustments can be mildly uncomfortable, however, modern techniques are more refined and usually require little force.

Response to treatment can vary, as each person's problem is different. A person's age can also determine how quickly they will respond.

Chiropractors complete 5 years of full time study and hold dual degrees. No referral is required to see a chiropractor. Chiropractors also keep informed about the latest developments in diagnosis, techniques etc. by attending post graduate seminars and reading books and journals.

Chiropractic care has been found to be useful for the following conditions: back and neck pain, migraine, disc problems, arm and leg pain, numbness, pins and needles, shoulder pain, knee problems, headache, tension, sciatica and infant colic.

A significant percentage of private health funds will cover chiropractic care. The HICAPS system can be used to do an on-the-spot claim using your private health care card and then a gap amount will be payable either by cash or EFTPOS. This saves you from sending off a receipt to claim back your rebate.

MYOTHERAPY
Myotherapy is an integrated approach to musculoskeletal pain. It may be used to treat acute and chronic conditions of the muscles, joints and nerves. Myotherapy is largely based on research by Drs Janet Travell and David Simons.

Most musculoskeletal pains stem from trigger points or taut muscular bands that can develop from overload, trauma or ageing of muscles. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), post viral muscular conditions and fibromyalgia can also cause myofascial pain.

Myotherapists hold a Bachelor Degree and no referral is required for an appointment.

As a new patient you will be asked to fill in a written consent form, and then the Myotherapist will go through a thorough assessment. The practitioner will then outline a treatment plan according to your particular problem. Treatment methods which may be used include soft tissue therapy, mobilisation, nerve stimulation (T.E.N.S.), dry-needling (small, single use only needles), using heat and ice, recommending specific exercises and providing pain management techniques.

Some aspects of treatment can cause mild discomfort. Residual aches will normally resolve within 24 hours.

A positive change in your present condition is normally noted after the first session. This may include improvement in your ability to move, reduced swelling, reduced pain, improved posture and better sleep patterns.

Myotherapy can also be used to prevent future musculoskeletal problems from developing.
