SERVICES
RolfingŪ can help relieve chronic pain, improve posture, and increase flexibility and mobility. It addresses problems such as repetitive strain injuries (RSI), plantar fasciitis, back pain, frozen shoulder, and headaches. It can also enhance exercise programs such as Yoga and Pilates, and help achieve muscular balance which is important for obtaining maximum benefits from any weight-bearing program.

What is Rolfing?
Rolfing is a form of bodywork developed in the 1930's by Dr. Ida P. Rolf, who received her Ph.D in biochemistry in 1920. Dr Rolf came to believe that chronic pain is often an expression of an overall structural imbalance, and that this imbalance is maintained by restrictions in the body's connective tissue ("fascial") network.

Dr. Rolf's investigation led to the development of Rolfing; a system of soft tissue manipulation that focuses on releasing fascial restrictions, allowing muscles to return to a balanced relationship.

The Tens Series
The Rolfing ten series involves a well planned series of sessions designed to bring the body's major segments - head, shoulders, thorax, pelvis and legs - toward vertical alignment. It is designed to produce length, front/back balance and support.

Typical Session
Sessions begin with the Rolfing practitioner observing the client's structural alignment in standing, and while walking. The practitioner then works to release restrictions that may be involved in producing the client's symptoms.

In Rolfing, deep strokes are performed slowly, waiting for the tissue to soften, lengthen or release. The client plays an active role in the session, performing different movements to aid in the release of specific areas.

Non-Series Work
Sessions that don't conform to the ten series format are available to suit the particular needs of the individual.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does a Rolfing session last?
Sessions last 90 minutes.

How much does a session cost?
Payment is due at the end of each session (cash/cheque only). Sessions cost $100. Rebates are available, under "Remedial Massage" through most health funds.

A 15% discount is available for Health Care Card holders and RRR subscribers.

What should I wear?
The typical attire for men and women is underwear so that the structural pattern can be observed, however clients are encouraged to wear what they are comfortable in.

If I start a ten series, do I have to do all ten sessions?
No, there is no obligation to complete the series.

How often should I get Rolfed?
It is recommended that you have no more than one session a week in order to allow your body to become accustomed to the changes taking place. It is preferable that no more than two weeks pass between sessions however, so that the cumulative effect of the sessions is not lost.
