About CHI
The Creative Health Institute (CHI) is an Educational Centre, which offers courses and seminars in Yoga Chi Gung, Metaphysical Neurology, Awakening to Joy (enlightenment), and Atlas Profilax. CHI is directed by Grant Woolven, a Yoga Chi Gung Teacher and Ayurvedic Practitioner who has been involved in spiritual awakening, Natural Medicine, Yoga and Chi Gung since 1974. The purpose of CHI is to help educate and empower others in their journey towards health, enlightenment and service to humanity.
Yoga Chi Gung Classes
There are YCG teachers in Brisbane and other parts of Australia; refer to Yoga Chi Gung – registered teachers.
Early morning YCG classes are held at Woodford Folk Festival every year in the Dance Pavilion: December 28 to 31.

A profound journey of self-transformation and spiritual awakening.
Metaphysical Neurology
Previously called Emotional Transformation. MN is simple and powerful self-help technique is based on the principles of Energy Psychology and Quantum Physics that utilises techniques from Neuro Linguistic Programming, Acupuncture and Yoga. Learn how to easefully resolve emotional traumas, overcome addictions, obsessions, phobias and compulsive behaviours. MN is included in all Awakening to Joy seminars and can also be presented as a separate program. Interstate and overseas programs are conducted by invitation.
Awakening to Joy
One day and evening seminars in which participants are invited to awaken to their indwelling presence as consciousness. This process is accessible to all people from all walks of life, spiritual and religious backgrounds. In Brisbane this seminar is conducted in three formats, each one with a specific theme. Each of these includes deep relaxation, guided meditation, Metaphysical Neurology and transmission.
Atlas Profilax
Four times per year Grant sponsors Atlas Profilax practitioner Ray Shapcott to visit CHI to conduct treatments. He also organises Practitioner Trainings with Ted Hane from Switzerland.
Skin Care and Nutritional Products
A totally pure and natural range of skin, body care and nutritional products, including medicinal herb teas, developed by Grant from his experience in Natural Medicine, Ayurveda and Aromatherapy since 1974.

About Grant
Grant has been a student of Natural Medicine, Yoga and Chi Gung since 1974. He has studied various systems of energetic exercise, energy psychology and spiritual awakening. He is qualified as an Ayurvedic Practitioner (APAA), Yoga Teacher (YTAA & IYTA) and Tibetan Reiki Teacher. He now spends his time writing, doing research and teaching seminars.
The following notes briefly outline his journey, which he considers to be an ongoing adventure. Although he is a teacher Grant considers himself to be a student of life.
Journey Summary
- Born in New Zealand.
- Age 8 to 21 – on medication for severe skin disorder and bronchitis.
- Teenage years – studied Judo. Had first spiritual awakening.
- Age 21 – began daily yoga practice and meditation under the guidance of meditation master, Prem Pal Singh.
- Age 24 – travelled overseas to meet his teacher and had a powerful, transcendental experience of oneness.
- Age 26 – moved to Australia.
- Age 26 to 27 – studied Natural Medicine. Began practicing as a Natural Therapist. Studied and practised a number of styles of Yoga. Completed teacher training with Swami Gitananda and began teaching. Studied short form tai chi chuan with Barbara Camplin, a student of Master Al Huang Chiang. Began researching the common links between Yoga, Chi Gung and Tai Chi.
- Age 28 – explored Chi Gung, Tibetan Yoga, Japanese Yoga, Awareness Through Movement and the Alexander Technique. Studied Yoga in the Desikachar tradition through individual tuition for six months. Spent three weeks with Taoist Tai Chi Master, Gia Fu Feng.
- Age 29 – took time out from Natural Medicine to teach health education for TAFE. Spent one year on a fruitarian diet and one further year on raw food vegetarian diet.
- Age 30 – postgraduate studies in Yoga Therapy with Howard Kent, founder of the Yoga for Health Foundation in the UK. Studied Wild Goose Chi Gung with Chi Gung Master, Pamela Timmers. Studied Iyengar Yoga with Martyn Jackson.
- Age 30 – worked on a farm for six months and got chemical poisoning. Spent nine months bedridden (nearly died) with 11 large ulcers. Suffered weight loss (35 kg), a four-month migraine without sleep, severe pain and memory loss.
- Age 31 to 32 – slow first stage recovery.
- Age 32 to 38 – second stage recovery. Researched how to integrate principles and practices from various systems of Yoga. Did regular cleansing programs and juice fasts. Studied and co-taught Yoga classes with Feldenkrais practitioner and Iyengar trained teacher, Richard Weinberg.
- Age 36 – recognised as Yoga Teacher with the International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA).
- Age 38 – began training Yoga Teachers.
- Age 38 to 43 – further research resulted in the development of Yoga Chi Gung.
- Age 40 – gained membership into the International Internal Arts Association (IIAA).
- Age 41 – studied and qualified as a Reiki Teacher in the Tibetan-Japanese tradition with Margaret King-Hoskings. Studied a system of Chi Gung called Xing Ming Gong with Grandmaster Jack Lim, which had previously been kept secret amongst Taoist hermit sages.
- Age 42 to 47 – continued research in Yoga, Chi Gung, Natural Medicine and Energy Psychology.
- Age 45 – developed Emotional Transformation.
- Age 47 – recognised as an Ayurvedic Practitioner and admitted as a member to the Australasian Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (AAPA).
- Age 49 – experienced a miracle, which coincided with a two week period of unity consciousness. Attended a spiritual awakening seminar and received three hands on transmissions (deeksha). Three weeks later travelled to India to meet Sri Bhagavan and Sri Amma, the avatars who developed the deeksha process. After a specific transmission experienced ‘divine surgery’ and was lifted into a state of God realisation lasting for hours.
- Age 49 to 50 – progressively became freer of suffering with more inner peace and joy. Went through six weeks of ‘dark night of the soul’ despair. Afterwards lived in a more elevated state.
- Age 50 – returned to India to complete the 21 day Oneness Process at Oneness University in order to be able to give deeksha. Had more profound experiences of divine bliss and joy and insights into subconscious programming.
- Age 50 – began teaching Awakening to Joy (satsang and deeksha) seminars.
- Age 50 – received the Atlas Profilax correction, which catalysed a shift in consciousness and totally new experience of the spine, both structurally and energetically.
- Age 50 – began working with Energy Balancers. Spent four months on fruitarian diet.
- Age 51 – returned to India to study and receive traditional Ayurvedic treatment (pancha karma) for 24 days to assist with detoxification of chemical residues. Specific processes here catalysed experiences of unity consciousness and awakening of the chakras.
- Age 51 – progressive deepening of oneness in daily life as well as numerous peak experiences. After two months on a fruitarian diet began Sun Gazing. This catalysed a powerful healing process in body and mind, including increased functioning of the brain, pineal, pituitary and thymus glands.
- The journey of awakening and learning continues…
Current Projects
During 2006 Grant is doing research and writing books, which will be manuals for seminars conducted in 2007 and beyond. These include:-
- Open Sesame – an Integrated Nutrition and recipe book which integrates many approaches to maintaining health and healing with whole foods, including Ayurvedic, Taoist, Palaeolithic and Raw Food with modern research in blood, anatomical and metabolic typology, enzymes, phytochemicals and chronobiotics.
- Subtle Anatomy, Yogic Physiology and Oriental Psychology – a comprehensive study of the human energetic field including three bodies (including the physical), four sheaths (sub-bodies), the great central vessel and inner chakras, nine mysterious vessels including the main central energy and 14 outer chakras, 12 organ meridians, 12 muscle-tendon meridians, 12 divergent meridians governing genetic blueprints, 96 joint chakras, three essences, three doshas, 10 subdoshas, three layers of mind, the relationship between thoughts, emotions, subconscious programs, organs, muscles and energy flow, and more.
- Revised Yoga Chi Gung manuals for each level of practice.
- A seminar on healing using whole foods with specific recipes for each organ and system in the body, including the energetic effects of commonly available foods and herbs.
- A new approach to Foot Reflexology based on the actual geography of the feet, how the ‘body imprint’ in the feet occurs (all the nerves do not end in the feet), why massaging the hands and head is unnecessary, how to correct the spine from the feet, emotional reflexs for powerful releases, enhancing reflex massage with hydrotherapy and a unique healing oil.
