WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
Osteopathy dates back to 1872 when Dr A. T. Still could not solve his family’s health problems using his knowledge as a physician. He set out to develop a holistic system to stimulate the body to do its own healing, eliminating the use of addictive drugs from his practice. He considered surgery as a last resort. Osteopathy is distinctive in the fact that it recognises much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function of the body’s structure as well as damage caused to it by disease. Osteopathy may help in a wide variety of conditions in all age groups from new-borns and kids to the elderly.
HOW OSTEOPATHS TREAT
Osteopaths use their hands to investigate and treat a broad range of problems, drawing on a wide variety of manual techniques that can be chosen to suit an individual’s specific problems and preference. Such techniques include soft issue stretching and massage, skeletal adjustments and joint manipulation, myofascial release and positional release techniques, and other gentle techniques such as cranial osteopathy. Osteopaths may also give stretching and exercise advice, nutritional help, stress management tips, or postural and ergonomic advice. A session with an Osteopath usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes.
WHAT IS CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY?
This is a wonderfully gentle osteopathic approach. Although the term "cranial" gives the impression that the treatment is only for problems relating to the head, in fact Cranial Osteopathic treatment applied to any part of the body effectively release strains and tensions throughout, with it's carefully and specifically applied pressures. Interestingly, with Cranial treatment people are occasionally quite unaware apart from the contact of the Practitioner's hands, that anything is happening at all! You may feel sensations of pressure under the Osteopath's hands or elsewhere, or a sensation of localised warmth as a release and relaxation is achieved in the tissues. Many patients feel that gradually the tension is being drawn out of their body, and they become deeply relaxed.
WHAT IS METABOLIC TYPING?
Your Metabolic Type reflects the fundamental way in which your body produces energy. Metabolic Typing treats the individual at this fundamental level, allowing for increased energy, enhanced resistance to disease and normalisation of weight. To determine your Metabolic Type, a series of saliva, urine and glucose tests are performed in the clinic over a 2 hour period. Once your Type is known, information about appropriate foods and nutritional supplementation can be given. Metabolic Typing teaches you to select foods and supplements that are right for your individual metabolism. Metabolic Typing is not a diet, it is information and knowledge based on your genetic biochemistry.
