The director of YogaPhysio, Tamara James is a qualified and registered physiotherapist and yoga teacher

    Who I am?

Tam has been a qualified and registered physiotherapist since 1994. She has extensive experience in treating a variety of problems ranging from acute injury to long term persisting pain.

Tam worked for 8 years in pain management centres alongside doctors, psychologists and occupational therapists including St Thomas’ Hospital, London and PainLogic in Brisbane. She has experience of incorporating principles of cognitive behavioural therapy into her physiotherapy practice. Wide ranging hospital and outpatient experience have equipped her to consider the needs of clients with different health conditions.

Tam has been practising yoga since 1994 and teaching since 1998. She gained her yoga teaching diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga in the United Kingdom and is a current member of the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia (YTAA). Additionally she has studied yoga with teachers in the United Kingdom, India and Australia.

Tam has studied Yoga and Vedanta beyond her yoga teacher training with various teachers in India and spent regular retreat periods in guided and self directed, silent meditation.

As the director of YogaPhysio, Tam brings these years of diverse experience to empower YOU to maximise your health.

    Physiotherapy

Injury and persisting pain can stop you doing the things you want to do. Physiotherapy helps to facilitate recovery from injury and helps to relieve pain and other symptoms whilst tissue healing takes place.

The overall focus of physiotherapy is to improve your function. Exercise may not be your goal, but it may be the means to an end.

A consultation with Tam will give you:

  • Accurate information regarding your condition
  • Therapeutic exercises - may include yoga and breathing techniques
  • Relaxation/ meditation skills
  • Life long strategies to manage your health
  • Bodywork to enhance exercise
  • Maximum one to one therapy

Research shows that such approaches can greatly improve quality of life. Success will enable you to return to a healthier, happier and more active lifestyle.

The Understanding and Managing Persisting Pain Course is recommended for anyone who experiences persisting pain.

Fees for physiotherapy and private yoga sessions vary according to time and service. An initial 1 hour consultation costs $80, which is reclaimable through most private health funds.

    Yoga

Yoga is synonymous with unity, realisation and liberation. Yoga includes a number of ancient practises designed to facilitate a journey of discovery. In the ‘western world’ Hatha yoga postures, pranayama and meditation are readily embraced. Many students come to appreciate the power of such practices to calm the mind-body and access the innermost peace that is our nature.

    Yoga Classes for everyone

  • Dynamic flowing style
  • Technically precise and safety assured
  • Graded according to fitness and ability
  • Progressive to maximise improvement
  • Beginners and yoga therapy classes
  • Usually classes include breathing practises (pranayama), relaxation and meditation instruction
  • Grounded in yoga philosophy to generate awareness of mind-body unity
