Hawaiian and Oriental Massage with a Meditative focus

Sharon combines the fluidity and rhythm of Hawaiian massage with the therapeutic and energetic benefits of Oriental massage. She also incorporates body awareness and breathing techniques to enhance the benefits of the massage.

Sharon has trained with Mette’s Institute in Ka Huna and lomi lomi (Hawaiian massage) and at the Australian College of Natural Medicine in Tui Na (Traditional Chinese Remedial Massage).

Sharon is also a qualified Nutritionist and hatha yoga teacher, with a strong interest in meditation, somatic (body-oriented) and creative therapy processes that enhance awareness, insight, acceptance and personal growth.

"Ease your physical and emotional tension with a meditative approach to massage…."

In daily life our ‘problems’ are often repressed, confused or ignored, storing themselves in our physical structure, for example, as tension in the neck and shoulders, pain and stiffness in the back, anxiety, panic attacks, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue, depression, headaches and eventually chronic disease.

I use a variety of Oriental, Hawaiian and remedial massage techniques in conjunction with breathing and sound techniques to create harmony within the mind and body; promote the flow of qi and blood; enhance detoxification and oxygenation of the blood, organs and tissues; promote a sense of peace and self-acceptance whilst assisting the release of frustration, doubt, worry, stress, anxiety, fear, restlessness, uncertainty and tension.

Why use this type of massage?

This massage technique promotes deep relaxation….

Hawaiian massage is a deep and rhythmical style of massage. The rhythm relaxes the body and mind, just as a rocking cradle relaxes a baby. The technique works sensitively and deeply into the muscles using continuous flowing strokes. The practitioner uses forearms, fingers, elbow, heel and palm of the hand in flowing motions, bringing awareness and nourishment to every cell. Breathing techniques are utilised to reduce muscle tension, emotional tension and mental tension.

Hawaiian massage is an experience that overwhelms the restless mind with sensations and at the same time communicates a feeling of acceptance and nurturing. Many Western based massage techniques do not take into account the mental and emotional aspects of a person. Hawaiian and Oriental massage, on the other hand, changes the way you think, feel, move and breathe, extending the relaxation effect beyond the treatment and into your daily life.

Maintains overall health and wellbeing…..

Like Hawaiian massage, Oriental massage promotes good health by balancing the flow of Qi (life energy) within the body. Chinese massage uses a variety of different techniques such as rubbing, rolling, pinching, pressure and pummelling to stimulate the proper flow of Qi through the meridians, blood vessels and organs.

The meridians are subtle networks that deliver vitality and intelligence to the entire body. The meridians direct the flow of blood, which nourishes and detoxifies the body, whilst promoting the health of the organs, which are, among other things, responsible for our emotional and mental states.

Traditional Chinese Medicine views the human body as a microcosm of the universal macrocosm. In order for us to achieve harmony and health it is important for us to be in tune with these natural laws. The yin-yang theory (all energy can be divided into these two opposing and yet intertwining categories) and five-element theory (the way in which we experience the movement and quality of this energy) are taken into consideration during your treatment in order to identify the disharmony you are experiencing and remedy it.

Both styles of massage promote lymphatic drainage and blood circulation (enhancing nutrition and detoxification), regulate the nervous system (reducing cardiovascular disease, chronic stress, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, enhancing digestion, reproduction, creative thinking and tissue repair), aid muscle integrity and repair (excellent for recovery after sporting events or injuries) and promote positive emotional states (increasing confidence, calmness, trust, balance and clarity).

Enhances awareness and personal growth….

This style of massage may be regarded as a form of assisted meditation. You are encouraged to develop your ‘buddha nature’ by paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, reactions and body sensations whilst being massaged. By doing so, you will gain greater insight into the nature of your own pain and suffering, planting the seed for healing and change.

Will it suit your needs?

Unlike a visit to your GP you don’t need to wait until you’re ‘sick.’

Massage is a form of preventative medicine, which means it will keep you in shape so you don’t get ‘sick’ as often.

Although, of course, the benefits from this type of massage may be experienced if you are already confronting difficulties such as...

  • Headaches
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Work or relationship problems
  • Muscle tension
  • Muscle aches, twitches, pain
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Indigestion
