What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy focuses on the treatment of the causes of pain, not only the symptoms, via treatment of the joints, muscles and connective tissues with 'hands on' techniques such as soft tissue, stretching and manipulation.
Osteopaths offer you personalised advice on stretching and strengthening exercises, posture, diet, lifting procedures and stress management.
Osteopaths look at the 'big picture' of body functioning and use a variety of techniques which acknowledges the many factors that contribute to balance and health.
Why Choose an Osteopath?
An Osteopath is a primary care practitioner with the appropriate skill and knowledge to assess your complaint. Osteopaths can assess structural changes that may lead to immobility and dysfunction due to:
Recurring injuries & Chronic Strains
Poor Posture & Decreasing Flexibility
Muscle Spasm
Secondary effects of Hip, Knee and Foot problems
The Osteopath decides which is the most effective course of treatment as we rely principally on physical examination and a highly developed sense of touch to form a diagnosis. Osteopaths utilise the technologly of modern medicine where appropriate, which may include radiological, orthopaedic or neurological assessment.
How does an Osteopath treat my condition?
Osteopathic treatment involves manual techniques, including soft tissue stretching and massage, combined with mobilisation and manipulation of joints. Here at Beachside Health, we also offer diathermy and ultrasound.
By designing an appropriate treatment plan, your Osteopath will also provide an ongoing management or maintenance plan to prevent a recurrence of the problem.
Why Osteopathy Works
Osteopaths recognise that every structure in the body is designed to move. Asides from walking, running and the like, there is a great importance placed on the internal movements of the body such as, circulation of blood, gas exchange during breathing, digestion and nerve function.
The human body is dynamic and although pain may only be felt in one area, many other regions of the body may be affected and need addressing with treatment for a full recovery to occur.
For example:
Headaches are often caused by poor mobility in the upper back and shoulders
Low Back Pain may be as a result of hip, knee or foot problems
What is Myotherapy?
Myotherapy is the assessment and treatment of muscular pain and dysfunction. Myotherapy is applied in the preventative, corrective and rehabilitative phases of therapy to restore and maintain the normal function of the soft tissue structure (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) of the human body.
Myotherapy can work to deactivate trigger points in muscles, which are created when a muscle is damaged via birth, sports, accidents, occupations, and disease. Trigger points can be painful and refer pain to other areas of the body. Excess emotional and physical stress can create muscle tension. Myotherapy can aid recovery and decrease muscle soreness.
What does Myotherapy involve?
Depending on the particular problem, the myotherapist may use a combination of the following:
Deep tissue massage
Mobilisation
Soft tissue manipulation
Myofascial dry needling
Myofascial stretching
Corrective and Rehabilitative exersises
What is Acupuncture/Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Acupuncture is part of an integrated system of primary health care, known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Acupuncture is an effective, natural and increasingly popular form of health care.
Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of a wide range of common and not so common health conditions. It can also assist with general health maintenance and disease prevention. By strengthening and enhancing normal body functions, the immune system is regulated and general sense of well-being is promoted.
Acupuncture takes an wholistic approach to understanding disease process and focuses as much on prevention of illness as on the treatment of health conditions. Treatment targets not just the presenting signs and symptoms- it looks at underlying conditions and other health problems.
