About Qi Rhythm Therapies

We believe it is important to support and nurture mothers throughout their pregnancy. A mothers’ wellbeing is fundamental to the care and nurturing of a newborn. This Melbourne based business was established in 2004. Qi Rhythm Therapies was born out of a longing to provide women with both emotional and physical support throughout their pregnancy, to help women grow and develop within their transition into motherhood.

Massage

Pre and post-natal massage has many positive aspects for you and your baby. Massage provides emotional relief and physical improvement for muscular pain and imbalance, helping to relax and strengthen the body. Body-work promotes soothing and invigorating properties that help to relieve mothers and in turn their babies. Our practitioners draw on many different styles and techniques. Deep tissue massage relieves tension from the musculotendinous unit, improving range of movement and tightness. Lymphatic drainage massage helps maintain circulation, preventing swelling both pre and post-natal. Relaxation massage provides an excellent feeling of release, increases the metabolic rate and breaks down food for both mother and baby. Therapeutic massage combined with regular exercise increases muscular strength and stabilises weight, helping to restore your body after birth.

Qi Rhythm practitioners offer massage in the convenience and comfort of your own home as well as visits to women in hospital. We use a supportive pregnancy table enabling you to lay on your belly – a true luxury. Our practitioners draw on a wide range of skills, knowledge and experiences; including time spent in some of Melbourne’s leading maternity hospitals.

Induction Massage

Induction massage is given after your due-date. Focusing on acupressure points otherwise avoided during pregnancy, these pressure points combined with massage can help the body to release both endorphins and it's own oxytocin hormone. Oxytocin is a natural form of Pintocin used medically to induce labour. These techniques work with the body’s own ability and willingness to let labour begin naturally. Induction massage works to relax and calm the body easing tensions and helping to create a clear and grounded space. Using the essential oil of Clary sage, massage also helps to release your sacrum and pelvic area allowing you to open your body to birth.

We have a fantastic success rate with our induction massages, with most clients going into labour within 12-48 hours, often avoiding medical intervention.

Massage costs
1 hour $90
1.5 hours $110

These charges apply to all suburbs within a 15km radius of Melbourne’s CBD, additional charges apply to suburbs outside this range.

Yoga

Qi Rhythm also offers private yoga classes suitable for both beginners and those more experienced. Yoga is incredibly supportive and beneficial for pregnant women, helping the body adjust to, and work with, the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy. It encourages flexibility and helps build empowering strength for labour. Kylie Ayres, one of our massage practitioners, is also an experienced Hatha yoga teacher. In September 2006 Kylie completed her training in pre and post-natal yoga.

We offer one on one class’s within your own home. These classes are tailored to individual needs and flexibility. There is also the possibility to gather small groups of friends for group classes.

Class costs are $80 for individual and group sessions- for group classes there is a maximum of four people per class.

Birth Support

Birth attendants provide women with emotional, physical and educational support, encouraging them to feel safe and empowered throughout their pregnancies and labour. They will help to guide you through challenges that may arise and to support you in the choices and decisions you make. They are there to help you create the birthing experience you desire, bringing with them a deep understanding of the process of birth. It is very reassuring to have people around you who believe in you, encouraging you embrace your own strength and capacity to give birth.

We have five highly qualified and passionate birth attendants who share many years of experience and are all mothers themselves- Melanie Myres, Lael Stone, Jules Brooks, Sophie Lacanna and Lisa Tosher. All five women are incredibly passionate about educating and supporting women through this time in their lives.

Naturopathy

Naturopathic medicine treats using natural methods such as, dietary and lifestyle advice and supplements such as herbal elixirs, vitamins and minerals. These work together to support and stimulate the body’s inherent self-healing process. Naturopathy approaches the person as a whole, placing equal importance on the physical, emotional and psychological, believing they are undoubtedly connected and therefore have the ability to influence and interact with each other.

Naturopathy is a safe, non-invasive form of natural medicine for babies through to the elderly. Our naturopath, Anja Bauer has a special interest in pre and post-natal care for both mothers and babies. Natural medicines provide support for mothers, not only helping to build strength for labour but also to nourish and re-build the body in the post-natal months. Babies also benefit from the non-invasive gentle approach of naturopathy.

Gift Vouchers

Gift vouchers are available and entitle the bearer to a massage in the convenience and comfort
of their own home. Gift vouchers are a great idea to encourage mothers to rest and take the time they need and deserve; creating an awareness that is fundamental to growing a healthy baby.
