What Is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic today is one of the largest primary-contact health care professions in the world, with only medicine and dentistry being larger. Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts which is concerned with human health, disease processes and prevention. Chiropractors are physicians who consider man as an integrated being and give special attention to the physiological and biochemical aspects including structural, spinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, vascular, nutritional, emotional and environmental relationships. Chiropractic is safe and drugless and therefore babies, adults and the elderly can experience the benefits of chiropractic care.
Your spinal cord and spinal nerves are encased by the vertebra of the spine, when these vertebra shifts or misaligns (termed chiropractors call a subluxation) the nerves of your spinal cord send incorrect messages to the rest of you body causing pain and dysfunction not only in your back but in other parts of your body.
Chiropractors specialize in the removal of subluxations and restoring the body’s normal function. The primary goal of chiropractic adjustments is to treat these areas of decreased movement in the joints of the spine which can create a reaction in surrounding tissues (ligaments, muscles and nerves) resulting in pain, dysfunction and muscular spasm. Chiropractors are also trained to prescribe therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies.
Adjustments are highly controlled procedures which rarely cause discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient which allows them to treat newborns all the way to the elderly. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.
The vast majority of patients who seek chiropractic care do so for complaints of the musculoskeletal system, most often for conditions affecting the spine. Scientific study of spinal manipulation has clearly demonstrated that chiropractic treatment improves function and is effective for common conditions such as headache, neck and back pain. Between 86 and 96 per cent of all visits to chiropractors are for these or similar conditions.
What is Podiatry?
Podiatry at Complete City Health is aimed at not only improving and treating your foot problems, but also improving your overall well-being. This is done through identifying foot types, advising appropriate footwear, improving muscle strength and joint flexibility as well as education to adapt with your lifestyle. Podiatry not only looks at foot disorders, but also certain problems associated with posture and biomechanics as a result of improper foot function during running and walking.
Our Podiatrist has a Masters Degree in Podiatry specialising in biomechanics of the lower body. Biomechanics is the study of human movement and deals with the relationship between different parts of the body during activity and sport. The Podiatrist will assess your foot posture, overall posture, muscle strengths and weaknesses, and gait pattern both with and without footwear. A treatment plan will then be arranged to suit your individual condition. This may include stretches/exercises, footwear modifications and orthotic therapy. Orthotic therapy involves the use of customized foot supports/inserts (orthoses) to correct biomechanical imbalances in the feet and lower body.
What are orthotics?
Orthotics are designed to correct biomechanical imbalances of the feet and lower limb. The orthotics made by our podiatrist differ from inserts purchased from the chemist, as they are fully customized, casted, and corrected to each patient’s individual requirements. Due to the semi-rigid nature of these devices, they provide superior foot control then the softer devices while still being comfortable and unnoticeable after an advised gradual wearing period. These supports help to improve postural and foot mechanics by improving joint alignment during gait.
