Their qualifications include a Bachelor of Osteopathic Science and a Bachelor of Applied Clinical Science. Osteopaths hold the title 'Dr.', as they are considered specialists in musculoskeletal and spinal care.
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a non-invasive, drug free form of manual medicine.
Osteopathy can treat musculoskeletal conditions, and other conditions, via the musculoskeletal system.
This is achieved via a large range of osteopathic techniques, which include:
- counterstrain
- Muscle Energy Technique
- cranial osteopathy
- manipulation
- fascial/ myofascial techniques
- Bowen technique
- soft tissue massage
- passive joint motion/articulation
Osteopathy is very safe and gentle, as well as effective.
For this reason, anyone can benefit from treatment - from newborns to the elderly.
Osteopaths are primary health care practitioners.
This means that no referral is necessary when making an appointment.
It also means that we are trained to diagnose not only musculoskeletal conditions,
but also to recognise disease processes.
We can then provide an appropriate referral if necessary.
Consultations
The first treatment will take approximately one hour. After completing a thorough case history, we will assess your musculoskeletal system for areas of restricted movement, tissue changes and asymmetry.
A comprehensive and specific diagnosis can then be made. The diagnosis and treatment plan will then be explained to you, and treatment is performed. Every person is different, and therefore every treatment is different - for example, we don't just treat every case of low back pain in the same way.
